4K carbs

Postby Ashflea » Thu Jun 22, 2006 8:13 pm

Just looking for info about what sort of carbs work well on 4k engines. I have been reccomended 35mm sidedraughts but any decent ones that i have seen are pricey. I have heard that a carb from a later model corolla can be quite effective but have no idea what to look for. The engine is pretty standard, its an emmissions model 4KU from an 85 kp62 auto starlet. I have just converted from auto to manual and i have lightened the flywheel and fitted a set of extractors. Also if anybody knows a good place in south auckland to tune it let me know. Any help would be appreciated.

Twin 40mm sidedrafts are the way to go if your looking at modifying the engine a little more (head work cam etc etc). They give great power, throttle response and sound FANTASTIC!!! If your not going to be modifying the engine and looking for better fuel economy than a set of sidedrafts, i'd say a 32/36 Webber or Asian carb of a 1800cc mitsi, Webbers and the adaptors are pretty easy to find but ive heard the Asian carb will bolt straight onto the std manifold.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, I rate the 1300cc webbers off Escorts, they're that popular, I noticed a chap was selling adaptor plates for 4K manifolds not long ago.. good, cheap mod.

hey ashflea.. does your chassis plate for the kp62 state a 4k-u engine or a 3k??
ive found that the later emissions carbs with the vacuum operated secondary throttle arent as responsive as a similarly sized 4k/5k carb with the earlier weighted flap thing.. they have the 21/25 venturi i think. most of the 'emissions' stuff is to do with auto choke, hot idle control etc. but egr = bad
