Radiator leaking - GT-T

Postby snwtoy » Sun Jun 25, 2006 1:15 pm

I've just had the radiator out of my car (had to get part of broken radiator cap out), and I've reinstalled and refilled with coolant.

It has sprung a very slow leak :? This is a pic of the underside of the front of the car, looking up from the ground (cover removed).

It will create a puddle of coolant about 10-15cm across on the ground in 24 hours.

Its definitely not leaking from higher up, as the area around the prong bit is completely dry. Interestingly, if I slightly loosen the bung, it starts dripping more, so I wonder if the bung is supposed to seal the hole for this as well?

If it comes to it I will just have to drain it again, and have a proper look at the bung - it's possible I may have dislodged an o-ring or something as I was in a hurry.

you could put a bit of sealed hose over the drain pipe if there's no apparent reason for it (after disassembly)

Indeed it is the radiator drain bung. If you pull that drain bung right out you will notice a little rubber o-ring on the end, try replacing that. Whenever you replace the coolant on a car that hasn't had a coolant change for a while there's a good chance you'll spring a leak somewhere.

Bastard. You made me go and look at the bottle. And I know full well that dot ratings don't even apply to antifreeze.
