Valley View hillclimb ... July 9th ...

For anybody thinking about doing this event I can tell you that I've just come back from driving over the road.
It's in the best condition it's ever been. Absolutely fantastic.
3.8 k's of the very best hillclimb road you'll find anywhere.

With the amount of logging there has been in the area the road looks and drives quite differently from before and we expect it to be fast.
Rollcages are required.

Access to Valley View is just over the Totara Park bridge, then immediately left. Road goes alongside the river bank.

The event start is about 2 k's in. Drive slowly & carefully.
There is no smoking in the forest - for obvious reasons.

If you're going to spectate, this event is a hillclimb which means it goes uphill. Wear sensible shoes.

There is a rallysprint on in the Hawkes Bay on Sunday also so we don't know how many entries we will get. We're running it regardless of the number.

Racing should start at about 10.00am and go until about 3pm.

This is a very good event to spectate

As Bruce says, good walking shoes are a must. I'd also recomend a really good jacket / hat / gloves. Last time I was at the venue, it snowed!

Leon, it was actually at Cooks Road that it snowed. At KCC we go that extra mile to bring you unique events.

Neo, I wouldn't be entering without a sump guard and with budget tyres.

I think my memory might be getting a bit old ... but I would have sworn black and blue that it was the Totara park turn off that lead to the event with snow on the top of it Too much petrol fumes.

Does this event attract many of the classic rally cars?

If so I'd consider making the trek with camera in hand.

That would depend on what you mean by 'classic rally car'. In reality very few true classics actually exist.
Being a club level event Valley View will have Starlets, Datsuns, old Corollas etc... together with a few 4WD's and FWD club cars.
If you're looking for RS1800 Escorts, RX3's etc... it's unlikely we'll see any of those.

Yes, but just remember, Rally drivers will try to crash on the passenger side of the car.

With all the rain there's been some damage in the hills with slips etc...
We're going into the forest tomorrow for a look. I believe the road will have held up OK but if it has not we may have to postpone.
