I believe that this also helps with fuel economy in the lower rev range, as it helps it scaveng better than if it was open.

According to my local cert guy, they're not illegal as long as you install them without the switch, so leaving them computer controlled.

I wondered as much. I suspect that it would end up as one of those "he says yes, and he says no..." type affairs. But really. What's the fun without the switch... :P

Or if you run a decent aftermarket ecu you could swith them, RPM, TPS or boost dependant.

I am pretty sure that the AE101's dont have them.

How about posting up a picture that you do off your EPC mr Revhead.
All ae101 20V's or just some facelifts etc etc?

And 95 decibels is the NZ wide noise limit at Motorsport NZ events,
so that's basically all circuit cars are 95 or less.

They are measured a a much greater distance than those spec's posted earlier.

its not a controlled valve, just a flapper valve thats moved by pressure.
the whole middle section if the exhaust is sold as one piece.

having said that i am trying to recall how i know that :?

I think you're right.
I was behind a AE101 on the way home last night. And sure enough, the exhaust was definitely only coming out one tailpipe...

As for the hidden switch. Like all hidden things, it's a pain to get at in a hurry... It's not really an issue. 99.999999999% of the time you'd just leave the valve in auto anyway...
I must see if my WOF guys will let me have one...

I had stock AE101 exhaust cut off just right at Y connector and I have not seen anything special in there, just a normal Y joint (could see it through with mufflers unbolted)...

ae101 20v?
what would have happened there is the power of the mighty 20v has blown the valve completly away.

so it must be due to flow of the mufflers then as the flow is definitly split.
but when you look at the two mufflers its easy to see the difference.

however i have definitly seen a model of chaser/aristo/barge etc that has an exhaust valve on that by passes the rear muffler.
looked factory too, wasnt a bling muffler

pritty sure blacktops have a valve but its built into the muffler, while silvertop just use two mufflers with verying flow rates

Caldina has a valve built into the muffler which closes off one of the twin pipes at low rpm. I removed my actuator and jammed it open..

my old **cough** camry vzv32 4vz-fe **cough** had a valve at the rear muffler.

I think my GTR would just pass, but having the same noise for bikes is abit ghey. Having a semi-loud exhaust on a bike is a good way to make sure you are noticed by other motorists...
