Chickenman, this is by NO means a personal attack on you, but you raised some points I would like to address.

Chickenman wrote:It's the same thing that always happens here, one person makes a sweeping decision for the whole community.

Not one person ... I agree with Disturb wholeheartedly. First it was the post-whoring competition. Then it was the push-the-off-topic-spam to the limit palava. Whats next? People will never be happy to abide by the rules, and there is always someone who will push a little bit further to see what they can get away with. If the forum isn't moderated, it falls to pieces. Like Leon, I'm actually quite stunned that people are so up in arms about a title under their name on an internet forum!

Chickenman wrote:I don't mind what it says under my name but I do think there is a lack of respect for members here.

Thats a two way street dude ... members of the mod team have been specifically chosen by the owners and operators of the forum (the people who created the Toyspeed name and the forum, so that members have somewhere to post and discuss toyotas and cars). The mod team gets more flack than any one individual on this forum, where is the respect they deserve? Every one of the mods is a long time member, who has shown they obviously have a level head on their shoulders, or they wouldn't be mods in the first place.

Chickenman wrote:all manner of personal opinion overthrowing good old debate and discussion.
Nothing wrong with debate and discussion, but when it gets to the point of arguing, abuse, insults, or other wonderfully mature ways of proving a point over the internet, then threads get locked, people get banned, and the forum moves on. All the uneccessary stuff adds up to a huge number of threads, and believe it or not, someone pays to host and provide us access to the rubbish as well as the valid stuff.

Chickenman wrote:1 Vote for a return to the old titles.... or is this China?
Not China ... but not a retail store either. The customer is not always right here. Until this forum is taking membership fees, then the mods decisions are final, and should be respected as so. If someone has an issue with a mods decision, it should either be raised with Blackjack or Wildcard, or sent to the mod team as a whole so it can be discussed.

I've locked a number of threads, removed a couple of threads, had words with people about posting images, and various other mod jobs. None of the people I have dealt with have been unhappy or angry with my decisions, and every one of the mods would have done the same thing in my position. There are, however, a number of members who seem to think this forum owes them something for some odd reason.

Again Chickenman, this is nothing against you (personally, I think TS wouldn't be the same without you ... or the chickens ;)).

Man everyone needs to take a chill pill. I thought the change of ranks was quite funny. I can't beleive people actually complained about them.. they must have nothing better to do.

I think the mods here are doing a great job, considering they are taking alot of time out of their life to moderate a free forum. That's right.. a free forum. The use of this forum is a privaledge not a right, so I don't see where alot of people have the nerve to complain.

My 2 cents.

If they had been changed to well thought out 'undernames', instead of spur of the moment ones, then I don't think we'd have any problems.

Perhaps the mods and the members should be open to discussion as to what would be reasonable and what wouldn't.

If you change / make anything, there will be people who complain. If there was a "free bj's day" people would complain. It is what people do on internet forums. They complain. They grandstand. They lie about themselves. They behave in a manner that would get their head kicked in if they tried it in person.

I am quoting Terry Pratchett here.

If god had said "let there be light" here, that would have been as far as he would have gotten, because then there would immediately have been an argument from everyone over what colour that light should be.

Hey ... you want your own title and not happy with the latest move to make things common? You can buy one - easy really. Instead of complaining about it all, how about you support your club and help raise funds so you can still have a place to bitch about. If you think it's all so God aweful why are you still here? It seems a good protion of you hate the way things are run. Well nobody is forcing you to be here. *sigh* pointless arguement...

After being a mod for many years and knowing what actually goes on behind the scene, I am again reminded why I stop being one by this current display.

Nice touch Leon
There's nothing wrong with a little healthy debate, but this is getting out of hand. It makes TS look foolish when a site like NZhondas hardly ever have problems like we always seem to be having.

Because you would be banned for this in NZH. They are about the cars not about the rubbish that goes on. Toyspeed is well known for crap this like and I for one am sad that a forum I was once proud of has turned to shite.

*mutters some more*

If I had my way, you would all start of as Muppets and have to prove you weren't to get a better title. *sigh* but lucky for all you I'm not in power as I'd do a 'Noah's Arc' and cleanse the place

I vote to put 'Panzy' under all the kiddyF_uckers names that complained about the whole thing in the first place...

Secondly, I think we should burn snwtoy at the steak as he started the last thread that caused all of this... :P

Thirdly, like what has been said before take a damned chill/harden up pill and then kindly $&#$% off and stop wasting other peoples time with your childish bitching. It's the Internet FFS - go and get yo' self laid or at least buy a life from the 2$ shop to start with.

*And who are we to $&#$% if not for the 10yo daughters?*

I just say put it back the way it was. I was quite enjoying being very regular, being 'backed up' for couple of days is quite uncomfortable!

Seriously, I know that the titles meant nothing, but it was nice to be recognised that you were a long standing/posting member of the forums, much like other forums have the same graduated system.

And for $&#$%' sake, I doubt many here are under the age of 13.. but it sure seems like it! I mean honestly, you're getting angry at a few words on a screen?

to be honest I think both sides are getting far too worked up about all this,

however before I go into my 20c, whats the best way of contacting the whole mod team? I have a way to fix the funding issues.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok the way I see it you can take the very base line approach of "its a forum get over it"

or you can take the extremist "I want a better title this one sucks boo hoo"

either way you are missing the point,

the Internet isnt what it once was, you need to start looking at the fact the whole advent of the internet is evolving in more ways than one,

Ok so some people want titles under their name some people dont.

So Someone, doesnt have to be a mod, set something up, arrange a Gmail account to take submissions from people who have a suggestion as to what the structure of the forum names should be.

--- I'll come back to this ---

set something up in the profile section, opt in or opt out, so you can opt in to the titles, or you can tick "make my title say Member Of toyspeed" or
even have no title at all.
its not that hard to implement.

---- back again ----

ok so you set up and email account, you say hey everyone send your suggestions for titles to me

then you are responsible for coming back to the board and setting up a vote.

mod involvement is still minimal at this stage,
they are just there to block actual posts to the Thread poll.

you then run heats of say 5 suggestions,

(if you had twenty sensible suggestions you would run 4 heats of 5)

you work the way through, in a democratic fashion with people voting for what they like.

eventually you come up with a structure that a majority of people who care about it will be happy with.

--- this is the bit where you implement a yes no in the profile.

so you arent interested in having a title that can change, or you dont like the naming structure, you can opt out.

the title structure is by no means a regular thing, hell you could make it a quarterly thing where people can submit new ideas, and the new idea can take on the existing structure to see if it stays the same or it changes.

this I think would be the best way of solving the issue, without totalitarian measures, and without whingeing and bitching in countless threads.

ok, it takes a wee bit of positive action from forum members and from forum mods,
but hell why not?

it just ads a bit of additional excitement to the forum to those who care and will participate in the voting and those that dont care need pay no attention.
