Dyno tuner recomendations

Im looking for some recomendations for tuners in Auckland region ive pritty much decided on a Motec ecu how ever im far more aware that a expensive ecu and crap tunes possibly less benefit than using stock ecu with bigger injectors. * BANG *...

Naturally by "Name brand" type reco i can firstly think of TP, but i know others are around who tho? Hopefully not Turbo vehicales either those guys just seem rude after meeting Sue the other day im hardly convinced to get my Motec from them ay let alone a tune.

just one question do you not think a motec is a bit over kill for your application, surley a less expensive ecu is goin to give you the same power and save you coin that you use on more modifaction. BUt hey thats jsut my opion

I agree, i compleatly agree and thats why im asking this question i personally dont see a problem with ( unless its a bad name place and thats why im asking ) i go to Raw motorworks just down the road from me and take them up on a 2500 installed Haltec with tune.

But it comes down to are they a good tuner or not?

i agree and thats what im trying to figure out, i asked about ecus on another post and got very little help.

This is a serious question to, but what do you see my " Application " being?

If you let them wash your car, theyd probaly blow it up.

Im not sure if ST-Hitec so Motec, but theyre renouned as one of the best, and theyre in Puke.

AH now were talking, i know ive heard bad things about raw myself but im using it as a point IF they were good tuners i think i WOULD be better off saving a grand cash and getting them to fit and tune what they have..

but there not by the sounds of it.. So who is? St Hitech sound good i just need to find there " ecu of preference "

Yeh Raw Have built a couple of quick mitsi's but as proved many a times on here even they dont know a thing about toyotas.

He does some really good work and I've never heard anything but good things from people about him.

bob homward, for hi tech in pukie has got good reputaion with micrtech and haltech, as for motec basically only turbo vechiles speacilise in them, stay well away from raw motorworx and gizzmo both have bad repution, um tourqu performance also have a good reputation. I am persoanlly probably goin to get a megasquirt installed and tuned by Garage Dori, or a go for a ems for speed source installed and tuned for 2400

ST Hi-Tec & HiTech Motorsport are 2 different place. HiTech Motorsport is in Pukekohe & Bob Homewood does the tuning there. ST Hi-Tec is run by Soichi Tate(Think that's the correct name/spelling). Either of them would be my pick along with Turbo Vehicles for a Motec, that is providing ST Hi-tec do Motec as I'm not sure if they do, I know the other two do. I've heard/seen/know good & bad about most tuners throughout NZ & Australia, some of it's true & some of it's just sour grapes spread by people that can't tune or don't know what they are doing. I'd use recommend the following HiTech motorsport, ST Hi-Tec, Turbo Vehicles or Edgells. If I had to I'd possibly use Torque Performance & G.C. Performance depending on the application. I'd stay well clear fo Raw Motorworx, Kiwi R.E & various others. There is plenty of people out there with dyno's but unfortunately not that many that can tune properly. That's just my 2C worth but seriously ask around & see what people are using & who they brought off & who they got it installed/tuned by & if they'd recommend going back there.

Turbo Vehicles aren't the only people in the country that can supply/sell Motec, other include Brennan's in tauranga, HiTech Motorsport in Pukekohe, Performance & Tuning in Hamilton(think that's what they call themselves) & many others including Speedtech.

Whatever you do cliff, don't give your car to A1 turbos or TP to tune.

ST hi-tech I wouldn't give it to him unless you are dealing with Nissan.
My mate's ex- AE86 had it's 10krpm engine tuned by Bob homwood, that guy knows his stuff, clean garage, but prepare to pay through the nose.

Give it to this guy named Kenny out in Glenfield, I heard he makes 3S-GTE's go fast.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Motec tuners, Neil Allport. They do motecs and that all they do.

Told you go with an autronic!! Edgell can tune it and its much cheaper than a motec and alot easier to tune than a motec as well.

Your talking SMC ay?

I think its Link G2 or SMC 2 on the cards at the moment, really i want to ask the tuner i choose and say what do YOU want to tune.. What will you tune best

Again... YOU need to list your requirements, ensure they dont have any wishes on them that will never go into the car. Then choose an ECU to suit. You should be able to find a very good tuner for the ECU you select of the ones you have listed.
For instance. Motec is a fantastic ECU, but do you need individual cylinder trim? Advanced datalogging?
Likewise an LEM is a very cheap ECU, but doesnt have AC idle up and isnt the best at boost control.
The answer is Helmholtz!

Thanks to everyone thats posted, but no matter how much i try to protect my self by reasearching best ecu for my needs etc i just end up banging my head on the same wall.

Im going to go with Bazdas suggestion for a Autronic SMC, bring out the $ and buy or ill be for ever running around doing the research thing.
