Bye, bye GT-Four....

Postby GT4 20 » Mon Jul 10, 2006 10:37 pm

Time to move on car wise so one of the remaining 4 NZ new GT-Fours is up for grabs. 99.9% certain I've found a buyer which means I'll have the $ available to buy my next car hopefully this week.
While the 4 is an awesome car and I've certainly had a lot of fun modding and driving it, I'm having a bit of a reverse mid-life crisis and going for something a lot more practical. The 4 is a bit limiting with 2 doors, no rear passenger room (at least for adults) and very limited boot space which does make it a bit of a pain at times.
So I'm looking at a Legacy B4 RSK Sedan. Going for tiptronic too for the first time after all my life owning manual cars. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but its very comfortable, pretty rapid and loaded with goodies.
The 4 is going to a good home and I'm sure that the new owner will carry on where I left off and it won't be too long before those 4 wheels see over 220kW

Gary, your not my friend anymore  Your meant to be saving it for when i have my mid life crisis and buy it off you :P Hope you made the right choice in selling dude, but yeh. B4's are ticking time bombs. My cousins has given him nothing but sh*t. Why not just get a nice purty 4 door toyota?

Like most cars, look after them and they'll last. Abuse them and they'll crap out.
As for a 4 door Toyota - nothing out there that really measures up the the B4 IMHO.

Keep the GT4!!!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Just not in the market for a station wagon. If I was, a GT-T would be at the top of the list :D

Is that why mechanical warranty companys and the likes have the wee boxes that you tick that increases your premiums.
Things that make a car more expensive to repair and more likely to need repair?

From memory they are
- Turbo
- 4WD
- Automatic
And there is even a box labelled
- Subaru. (none of the other brands even get a mention)

So sound like you have picked all the boxes except the Diesil option.

Ahh, I missed the 'sedan' bit.. Best of luck, I've heard the horror stories about them too - guy at work in another dept has one and has had to do the gearbox. For every lemon there's gotta be a good one though right?

Plenty of people out there with Toyotas which had been a nightmare to own as with plenty of other makes
I see no reason why a B4 shouldn't be as reliable as a Corolla for example if it is looked after and not thrashed. Mechanical sympathy has always been a trait of mine 8)

Always liked the B4s, but I'd take your GT4 over one any day!

My old Subaru never had a single issue! Everyone else I know with Subarus hasnt had problems with them either.

What's wrong with a Toyota Chaser turbo? or one of those rare 4WD Turbo Altezzas? (If you can find one that is)

Mazda Atenza wagon/liftback or >'03 Subaru Legacy GT wagon/sedan would be my ideal upgrade :)

I want to stick with 4WD. A Chaser isn't exactly my cup of tea looks wise. Wasn't aware that the Altezza came with 4WD and turbo as a factory option
