TRD Computer for AE86-82-92 AW11

Postby Maxwedge » Thu Jul 13, 2006 11:29 am

I recently saw for sale a TRD computer that plugs straight into AE86s 82s 92s and AW11s, I believe it was tunable to Group A and N and will run a car in standard form, it was tunable by switches at the ECU via information from a handbook and by a fine tuning module which sits on the dash. Anyone had any experience with these units? They are obviously pretty rare but are they sought after or is the technology old, or would you be better off with a link?

A TRD computer for computer for AE86 would now be approaching 12 to 15 years old.
They were adjustable but in a very limited way between a TRD Group N & A spec.
I have known them to be used successfully on mildly tuned circuit cars. In fact we used one in our own EP82 rally car. But in that car everything mechanical was TRD Group A.

The effect of plugging one into a standard engine would be minimal and I would suggest that if you were to carry out any modifications that would require, or seriously benefit from, a replacement ECU you would be better off spending the money on a Link or similar.

We have one running an AE86 with a very high spec engine (TRD group plus spec), it doesn't have any sort of dash mounted adjustments though. It runs the engine very well, never had a problem.

But in your case I would say a LINK would much better suit your needs.
