hilux conversion

Postby matt4u » Thu Jul 13, 2006 1:42 am

Im about to put a new engine in my hilux surf nd want to ask for some help.
my plan at the moment due to me not being ready to do the swap yet, I wanted to do it later in the year but thats not how its worked out.

I have come accross a 1ge that i can get for almost nothing but its only a single cam, If i was going to do this I would rather the twin cam 1geu, If I do put the single cam one in can I put the twincam head on later???? Or do the singlecam 1ge and teh twin cam 1geu have the same bell housing??

Cheers, Matt

I think its a fella on here with a surf with a 2JZ-GE in it who rekons its the best towing wagon ever. Lexus V8 is the other common mod.

Swapping heads - anything can be made to fit but just swap the whole engine over.
The G motors will have the same bellhousing and the G engine bellhousing will bolt onto any hilux/surf manual gearbox.
Do a search on the internet for people who have transplanted other motors into their hilux/surf.
Good luck.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Ye I have a bit of info on engine swats but most ppl dont bother with the 1GE. Its not really what I want and wont be for longterm anyway.

No, the rad support doesn't need to be cut.

Its more like this......
http://strx7.250x.com/index.htm

I'm in the process of sussing out either lower compression pistons or 3mm geasket and ARP headstuds so i can bolt a dirty great turbo to the side of it.

Cheers

I see you had to make a new sump cause you have ifs. The rad support is cut to make it easier.
Here is a write up on that swap Here

Same bell thru engine family

But there are better engines out there than a sohc 1G you would be better of with a 21R than that boat anchor

Theres a 5MG on Tardme with loom and ecu you want to go up in power rating not backwards

thats the reason im thinking the 1g just for the moment, I'll have everything and can get it up and running again, just have to keep her bouncing off limiter the whole time, or mabe mount my turbo off my 2LT onto it, LOL
