Full job is going to cost about $785.

New water pump, which means I need a new timing belt, idler and tensioner, plus about 5 or 6 hours labour.

Not totally sure why I need a new timing belt, but they said its run off that so it needs to be changed....

Car Dealer is paying for water pump, and half the labour.

So Im paying $410, they are paying $375.
Better than me paying the whole lot I suppose.

MTA doesnt cover belts, fluids etc.

Still - Ouch. My pocket is feeling that one a bit.
Should get it back tomorrow evening.

generally you need to remove the timing belt to replace the water pump. As a rule of thumb, most mechanics will choose to replace the belts while they're off to be on the safe side.

Got a call last night that they found the radiator bottle (bottle on radiator, not the overflow bottle). to be cracked, and it was leaking. They said it was lucky they found it, or it could have been a bad experience again, and probably not as fortunate as being in my driveway.

So that is at Southland radiators getting sorted - just ordered a bit from Toyota I think.

All going well, it should be all complete around lunch time today.

Car yard reluctantly said yes to 1/2 payment again for the radiator. I think I have sucked their margin from the sale away now, cos I did get it for a bit of a discount via a mate. got about $1500 off the price to start with.
Great they could help out though! Just hope nothing else goes wrong.

That exhaust manafold better not be stupid and warp like I have read on toyspeed!

Shite... more bad news.

Toyota cant source a new tank for the radiator, can only source the whole radiator from Japan. So Southland radiators is going to fabricate an alloy tank up to replace the broken plastic one.

Thats another $500 or so.
Shite shite shite.

Going to take a further 3 days.

This is going to be a bloody costly repair bill.

This particular AA man seemed like he didnt know what he was doing. May have been capable of jump starting a car, or changing a tyre, but thats about it.

Anyway - not the case. Only water related issues.

Oh man that sucks James.

I would have thought that there would have been parts available for the GT-T, they are fairly common now.

So how did the new tyres go anyway?? It always sucks to have new toys that you can't play with.

Hey. New tyres are great. Only got to do the trip home from Dunedin, which isnt a very inspiring road, so couldnt really test them out that well.

Yeah Im a bit pissed off really, that the part isnt available. $500 to fabricate a new tank for the radiator, compared to probably $100 for a genuine part. I mean - how expensive can a little tank be??
Apparently the tank is only available as the whole radiator assembly, not seperately or something. According to Invercargill Toyota.

Too late now really anyway - has been given the go ahead, cos I just need the car back. We have to have a rental at the moment, and that is a killer on $$. Such a pain in the ass..

Because Mr Revhead has the same database as Toyota down here. Toyota will be doing all the work, and becuase I need my car back as fast as possible. We only have one car, my wife has to have a rental at the moment, which is costing us lots.

Southland Radiators has been in touch with alot of wreckers, and cant find anything - as far as I have heard. He was waiting on a few others to get back to him, but as far as I know he hasnt found the correct part.

Trust me, I have tried to find parts from alot of places, I am not just settling with what is easiest. Its just got to the point now that we have been without the car for a week, and we need it back.

Apparently the radiator tank only comes as a complete part with the radiator, which is $2800 ex Japan.

That may very well be true, but I do believe that it is up to the individual franchises what margin they put on the product.

Yeah it is.

No offence at all intended to Warwick (I really didnt want to say this anyway), but so far pricing wise, Invercargill Toyota has been awesome. They quoted me rear spoiler, front nudge bar, badges and a few other bits for about 15-20% cheaper than what my mate who works in the parts warehouse in Palmerston North couldnt even get. Warwick didnt price all of these things, but Invercargills prices were a bit cheaper.

It is totally up to each branch as to what prices they sell for, Warwick has said this before.

This is NO WAY was a stab to him, his prices are great. He can probably get pricing cheaper than what I was offered, but this is just my observation so far. Warwick may have been able to get these latest bits I needed cheaper, but at the end of the day - i was desperate to a certain extent. We needed the car going, so I took what I could get at the time.

If I didnt have a time limit, I would definitely have gotten a quote from Warwick.

no sweat

a lot of the time pricing can depend on who you can get hold of at toyota.

rad top tanks are not at all common parts to sell, so im not suprised theres none in stock.

Is it a little strange though that they are not available at all (so it seams)?

Warwick - Surely its a seperate part to the whole radiator, and it would be sold seperate to the whole radiator assembly? Or is this not the case?

When I get the car back on Monday (Hopefully), I will post pictures of what they have done to the radiator - I am very interested myself. I cant even visualise the GTT radiator and tank, so have no idea really where this tank even sits on the radiator.

Cheers

Finally picking up GTT at 5 tonight.

Can take back this damn Kia piece of crap rental.
Quite funny though, this little Kia sedan, you push hard on the front or rear shocks, and it bounces about 5 times before it comes to a stop. Does that on all shocks... You go around a corner fast, and you just about get a wheel off the air - quite funny. Its like a 1500cc Auto I think. Man it has no guts. Barely accelerates with 4 people in the car. You could jog faster.
