st183 celica

Postby Vita » Fri Jul 14, 2006 1:19 pm

Hey guys, I'v purchased a ST183 Celica, first toyota since my 84 aw11.
dosnt have the adjustabel suspention, or 4ws button, but standard 4ws, manual.

I have sitting around here a walbro intank fuel pump 500hp iirc, and im wanting to do the injectors, header, exhust.

If i put the fuel pump in, will i need to put a regulator with it aswell?

Another tech Q, what is the timing ment to be set at, and what can it be advanced to without blowing it up?

is there any other common things that are done to these to get a little more profermance?

One of the more commonly done mods is to ditch the 3SGE in favour of a 3SGTE...then you'll have reason to use that big Walbro pump ;)
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

yes, have thought of that, what are the wiring isues though? i understand that the 4ws has its own wiring, and ecu of sorts.

although if i was to go down the 3sgte path, i might as well sell and get a gt4 (although i loose the fun 4ws) Is it possible to convert a 4wd to a 4wd/4ws ?

4ws? fun? Get off the meth!!!

Try going fast around a corner with both sets of wheels turning the same way.

This is a gtr not a zr right?

So far as I'm aware the 4WS cuts out after 20kph anyway.

Dont bother with putting in a 3SGTE, will take plenty of time and heaps of $$$ if you cant do it yourself and all you'll get is no traction. Pointless.

With the cost of GT-FOURS getting down to 3-5G you might as well just go down that path IMO

Having owned a 4ws celica, i can assure you otherwise. Going slow the front and rear stear opposite ways to make parking easier, going faster they stear the same direction to make changing lanes easier. Oh, and when the thing malfunctions it gets locked in high speed mode, reduces your turning circle to squat and makes parking damned near impossible.

GT4's are pretty slow and heavy though.

Buy an MR2.. you lose the back seats but in a coupe they don't really make any sense anyway.

I feel the need to tell a story. I had a relation who owned a car with 4ws, it may have been a Civic, not sure it was many years ago. He was driving from the West Coast to the East Coast of the South Island, via Arthurs Pass. He was going along a section known as Paddy's Bluffs. He was going about 90km/h when he turned a corner, the 4ws malfunctioned and his car tried to park really easily at the mentioned speed. Instead what happened is he went really easily off the side of the road and dropped about 200 metres to his death. Ever since them 4ws has scared the shiite out of me.

Forensics my friend. From the way the car skidded and they checked out the car and found the 4ws to be malfunctioning. Its what the professionals said so we believed them.
