Karl Skewe(r)s is the man...

Postby soopachargen » Sun Jul 16, 2006 10:42 pm

Just got home from a day at the D1 and must say that Karl Skewes is the man...
Some serious crazy sideways going on pity he couldnt keep it on the track for the hairpin and kick some big name big power ass.
And pity justin doesnt know your name... or was that an inside joke calling you skewers?
More haha was the ke70 corona.... i thought it was an ae70 corolla:P
Kick arse drive today dude!
Go the giant killer...

And on the whole i thought it was an awesome day. The commentry was funny, the ladies were gorgeous and the drifting was great.
When in doubt, down and out.

thanks heaps guys.. was an awesome day... glad you had a good time.

plenty of inside jokes with skewers and the like... I sorted out the AE70 at the end of the day.

was a bit out of battle practice, which showed..... as qualifying runs were much better. Still, 6th overall and peoples choice... totally stoked!! :D

Go the ITB's & cams... sounds great inside car, really tried hard to get as much noise as possible for everyone.

thanks again.

yeah, great day man. main things were:

Had a really good final qualifying session at taupo for r2 and sort of clicked there what was possible.

Changed from SD to AN (tps & rpm) tuning mode on saturday and straight away the car was a ton more responsive, driveable, and easy to tune up on the wideband. I have had good results with SD on stock motor + ITB's. Hence why I didn't change earlier.
So I didn't have to worry about that all day. Basically 6000rpm -> 8500rpm or so. Changing just over 8000rpm where possible.
Will dyno it in August at Torque hopefully. Expected 105-110rwkw (compression around 11:1 still). Stock was 85rwkw. Glendene Engine Reconditioners did a bang up job!

Maintenance on car and all the extra tidy up bits and bobs at Tama Autos would have helped reliability a lot too!

Started out on lesser grip tires, so was a little bit easier to get everything happening at the expense of sliding for a longer time then normal, and therefore off the track at times.
Then swapped them for something a fair bit batter at the battles which is not smart but the others were dead so had no choice.
I still need to go up another tire level again at puke (to same as carina was running), but I think that will be easily possible next time there.

That's the 5th track day I've done more then 2 laps in the car so far. And potential is quite a lot higher than carina, just not quite as consistent yet.

end ramble.

cheers... Unfortunately Will blew a diff head at practice on Saturday, and changed it that night, then another on Sunday. Unlucky, there's a hilux diff due to go in asap.
He's a demon driver though, so you'll definitely see him top 10 in the remaining rounds this year.
Also drifter4age will be out in force, the O.G toyota drifter with plenty of experience and top 8 notches on his belt.
Mark Harrison has just built up a new car as well with full cage and all that so he will soon get sorted in there and will be top 16'ing again.

So the numbers of good top10'able toyotas is quite high as far as toyotas in d1 nz goes.. pretty much the same as always.. Garage Dori + Nick T and Bung...

Cool to see Tup, and Mark Buckland, Alex and the rest of the gang out at puke open days.

come on everyone else.... come to the track!!.. :D

Other Toyotas...
Bung blew his clutch to bits early on. Poor bugger.
Nick Teeboon should be at R4 I think. His engine seemed really strong at Taupo.

Brad Kidney has a very tidy jzx100 1jzgte + W58 conversion of his R32.

Yeah saw Bungs clutch this afternoon... he found to major parts and the rest seems to have disapeared.
He said he hadnt even thrashed it yet so was gutted. He's just rebuilt his blacktop but seems to have a ring problem and is using a lot of oil so is talking about going to see Lynn Rodgers about a few mods after reading the latest performance car :P

What sorta tyres do u run Karl?? Do you run like a race compund on the front or is it just a standard road tyre??

185/55 grid 3 where possible front and rear, rear depends a little on track though, but will probably move to yokohamas soon.
It's a small and light car... and it gets a lot of drive when the angle is big.
Traditionally you're only allowed a street tire. I think that's the way it should be.
However rules have changed, hence the move to yoko's.

Yeah, be good if Bung can sort that engine out.. rest of the car is great, and engine goes well when it's on form.
