shipping car overseas

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Wed Jul 19, 2006 6:14 pm

whats involved in taking a car from new zealand, currently fully wofd/regd/certed in NZ, and getting it road legal in australia?

is it a fairly straight forward process, or quite involved and costly? or does anyone have any websites with this info on?

and what would it cost approx to get a car taken over there, if anyone has done it before??

cheers

I thought it was only 1 year to be able to have it imported as a "personal import".

well ive had it for about 2 years anyway, so that part of it isn't a problem. im just wondering if there is going to be a huge cost involved, or whether NZ and australian certification is compatable or what.

you'll find aussies have a lot more restrictions as such (depending what state in aussie) on modifications to cars, or more strict, remember reading that on twincam.org, worth a look though

currently the cost of it seems to be the biggest issue. a couple of quotes ive seen are between $3,000 - $4,000. sounds pretty stupid to me, people don't pay anywhere near that much even when importing cars all the way from japan, even privately.

are there any cheaper ways to go about this?

Supply and demand, much easier to fill a ship full of cars from Japan than going to Aussie. Maybe look at loading into a container with lots of other stuff as it could work out cheaper overall and less chance of damage.

Australia sucks!!! Stay in NZ...trust me. I cannot wait to get home!!!

But onto the question, Oz is very strict when it comes to anything involved with cars. Getting a RWC (WOF) is very involved, espiecally with older cars. Way tougher than in NZ.

But its your call.
