Internal Wastegate Vac Hose Question

Postby CozmoNz » Wed Jul 26, 2006 7:15 pm

Pretty simple guys, vickrin and I are a little confused it seems

Engine: CA18DET
Mods: stuff... including GT28RS (no bung on outlet of turbo for internal wastegate)

the question at hand, can you run your internal wastegate off the intlet manifold. (instead of installing a little bung in your intercooler piping).

I say yes, you can, but apparently the internal wastegate isnt allowed Vac.

True, False, bla bla?

Im certain ive seen a few engine bays with internal wastegates + inlet manifold hose controlling them.

not to mention all the externals around running that system...

Should be a hose or 2 around the throttle body that you can tap into thats open to the turbo side of the throttle. Cant really imagine why you wouldn't want vacuum to it. Its should just be a diaphragm after all

Because he said that he was going to sort a heap of stuff himself. Same reason we didn't build the engine etc. Kinda gave himself a lot of running around to do because of that, but thats his choice I guess.

Hope its all running nicely now. Was a bit rough with the 2 wrong chips before he found a good one

Yeh, i didnt hear the entire story, still havnt seen the car yet either. Ment to spool up fairly well with that turbo (duno how hes driving it / where / when or anything else) just that she gets boost quite quickly.

Yeah, James was saying it came on quite quick. Probably the perfect turbo for that engine.

Story was basically that we did the engine removal/installation, intercooler fitting and other fabrication bits. Another company did the engine work, he sent the turbo to someone, clutch came from somewhere else, his mate did the chips etc etc. Basically took ages. Would have been easier just to drop it off and say all the stuff that needed doing. Probably would have been done months ago then, and cost less possibly.

Ran like arse when the computer thought it had bigger injectors than it did :P Think the second chip he put in was just stuffed as there was a big pop from the exhaust at some stage. 3rd one was better, actually had some sort of idle.

Looks nice under the bonnet anyway
