Better revs

Postby s0cks » Thu Jul 27, 2006 7:58 pm

Didn't really know what title to give this topic.

I was wondering if there were any simple and (fairly) cheap mods to improve the revs at the higher end? It's a blacktop 20v in a Trueno. The thing is, the car just looses its get up and go when you get to ~7000rpm and I was wondering if there was anything that could be done to give it a bit more life.

The car is totally stock atm (although the CAT has been removed).

I'm really missing VTEC :( You could rev well into the red and it would continue to go hard!

Get some tuned length trumpets. Give you better peak performance, but really rob your low down stuff. In a way, it'll be win win for you, because you'll have more peak power, and it'll feel like it'll kick in hard like some mad VTAX action cause of that nothingness down low!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I think I might have to cave in and go VTEC again. But only as a second car. That way I can enjoy both worlds!

take off the airbox and plenum behind the engine and put filter socks over the factory trumpets, that will shift the power up the revs (maybe)

i used to get torque steer at 7k rpm without the intake in place.....

also, how much are you expecting from the engine? I find it revs from 7k to redline rapidly, maybe u do need a different car  :P

Yeah, it gets from 7-8 quite rapidly in the revs but the car doesn't go as hard at those kind of revs. Not surprising as it doesn't have lift. I guess its not so much the speed that bothers me.

The CRX is a small car with a great chassis and it was a massive hoot to drive.

I dunno. Problem with the CRX's is that they are old rust buckets now (most of em).

In my experience against turbo cars.. that extra 800-1000 rpm in first and second makes a huge difference.

If you were on a track it would be pretty pointless (splode :D ).. I guess.
