Why you dont drive your racecar to the track... with VIDEO!!

Postby KinLoud » Sun Jul 30, 2006 9:31 pm

Raced today at Taupo in the Taupo Car Clubmans Winter Series
3rd race, reverse grid, 2nd lap... FXGT corolla spun in front of the car in front of me.
I ended up with nowhere to go.... I'm OK but my trusty Carina might need a body transplant.
It looks like the motor etc. didn't get touched by any of the bent metal but both front chassis rails are way bent.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

On the last pic you can see a K&N air filter sitting at the base of the windscreen. This was knocked out of the other car!!
Forgot to get pics of the other car ... his front left wheel was bent and lower arm bent, guard a bit munted... he might have chassis damage as well.

Hi Steve. Haven't had a good look at it all yet. I might get time to pull the guards off tomorrow and get a good look at the chassis - loads of welds ripped in random places.
Left front wheel has no caster now - I think it is due to the caster rod being pushed about 15cm backwards due to the chassis bending.

Got it all on in car video - who knows how to compress and upload it?
Great shot of purple fxgt getting very big very fast!!

Holy moly Ken! Thats pretty nasty! Just a couple of taps with a hammer and she'll come right!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I think Windows Movie Maker has built in compression, the upload to YouTube. Just chuck it into movie maker then use the 'save as' function. Use the 1500kbps format (not the NTSC one) as it will not sacrifice too much quality. Or drop the tape off at my house and I'll do it for ya.

Damn, that is a pretty decent shunt. Glad you're okay. Reaffirms to me why I stick to playing in the forests (although trees have been known to magically "jump" into the middle of the road on occasions :lol")
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

Keith - yeah, please ask him not to dump it yet.
Once I get all the panels off the car I will see if the chassis rails can be replaced and a TT141 would make a good donor car or replacement car.
Could you PM me his contact number etc.
Thanks

All the gaps between the guards and doors still look pretty good - maybe crumple zones work?? And where does the dent behind the drivers door fit into it all :D
See ya

Simon - yeah the dent behind the door was from lasts years racing incident with a AW11 wing mirror (amongst other things)... who was driving that...
Yeah seems pretty straight from the strut towers back - I'll know once everything is out of the way so I can see properly.
It would be great if I can fix it up!
Nothing has hit the motor as far as I can see so if I fix up the broken relay box it should run (for short time only as radiator cracked bigtime).

However I have had a plan for a while to build a new racecar maybe in time for next season.
