Auto to manual need cert?

I was just wondering if a libero gt that was originally auto got converted to manual does it need a cert? I cant find any info on what mods need certification.

Someone please help me!! :?: :?:

No it doesn't require a cert. The manual gearbox bolts in place where the auto trans was.

If you did it properly (ie no rangi stuff...), and its not noted on your rego(check the tag in your window) then noone would know it used to be an auto...

Unless your warrant man is a very tedious geek and checks with land transport to see what your car was originally registered as :?

Was told when i did mine on the mr2 as long as the parts were stock toyota parts no cert required just had to change registration to manuel which didn't cost anything.

AFAIK You need to get your work certified regardless of what parts you use.
You can use golden parts if you wanted to but if the workmanship is done poorly then the conversion could potentially be hazardous both for you and other road users.

It's not parts that get certified it's the workmanship....

i just had to change the registration and take it for a warrant when i did mine but i guess you could always call land and transport and ask them what the deal is wit doing it....

Why don't people read the actual rules before spouting off shit on the internet???

The link to the WoF manual is in the FAQ and will tell you everything you need to know.

As per WoF manual certification is not required if -
Gearbox substitution
�� the OE gearbox cross-member has not been heated, cut or welded, and
�� the OE gearbox cross-member mounting to the OE body or chassis members is unchanged, and
�� no replacement gearbox cross-member is used, and
�� the OE drive-shaft(s) is un-modified, and
�� no substantial modifications have occurred to the floor or gearbox tunnel area, other than provision for gear-shift mechanism.

So for most cars there are no problems unless there are different body mounts for the auto version. If it all bolts straight in you will be fine, not familiar with your particular car so you will have to verify for yourself if it is a bolt in job.

It's a bolt in job for the gearbox. I'm pretty sure the rear diff will have to be changed too as the ratio for autos and manuals are different. A hole will have to be drilled into the firewall for the clutch master cylinder. That's about it apart from the wiring.
