Took my ST165 to drags.

Postby sergei » Mon Jul 31, 2006 12:53 pm

As some are aware, I have a ST165 with so called steel "CT20b" turbo attached to it. So being cheap, instead going to dyno (and to have some fun) I went to meremere this sunday.
My best time was 13.5...
Point of this topic is to find out what sort of time are getting other toyspeeders with similar setup...
I was actually surprised with this time. The fact that I got that time without much effort (and lots of sideways action in 1st gear), I shifted slow (did not want to brake the gearbox at drags, as I build my car as a club event car not drag machine).
Finally I kicked some ancient overgrown V8s asses (and some EVOs)...

thats pretty quick

Al with his sw20 had a ct20b wrc strapped on it and he ran a late 12 sec pass.

The st165 motors make less hp factory than the sw20/st185 motors.

So id say your not doing too bad.

Nice times,

Was it busy down there this weekend? me and some mates from CS are heading down on the 13th for a thrash, hoping to hit a 13.2 if i'm lucky.

that's a very good time, are you still running the 165 ecu? What was your 60ft and trap speed? How much boost? Good work!

ECU is ST185 BLITZ.
60ft is 1.859s.
trap speed ~163kph.
Max boost is 1.15bar (~16.7psi).
Honestly I'm not very good at draging (my heart bleeds when I see people smash into gears), so I think if some one who could change gears properly raced my car, it would defently get low 13..

thought you must've replaced the ECU, I wonder if anyone has managed to do even a 14 with that damn load based fuel cut in place?

your trap speed is very similar to what mine was (165), so if you could shave another 0.1 off your 60ft and get some faster shifts you could be looking at a 13.2 or 13.1 or even better.

Just thinking about it, I wonder if your car is heavier than mine was? Because you should be making more power than mine was (lower boost and only on a upgraded ct26 and stock ecu) but the similar trap speed suggests similar power/weight. Maybe it's time you put yours on a diet? :D

Those are pretty much identical to my numbers  Except my best was a 13.49 at 163 with a 1.856 60ft time (STi Type R)

Its ahrd to slam through the gears in your pride and joy.

Might see ya down there some time

it is very slim:
no interior (only stuff required for safety for driver/front passenger), no sound deading (long days of heat gun and spatula, resulting in two bucket loads of tar), no A/C, + chucked out lots of other crap from engine bay (TVIS, TVSV, lots of vaccum tubes, A/C related solenoids/tubes, 4wd related solenoids/tubes)...
Whats only left (unnecesery) are the speakers in the dash (too lasy to take them out)...

that being the keywords

so with that sort of time and trap speed what will that roughly be in power?
