Unlucky.

As my old manager once said, its' not a problem, its' an opportunity! I quite like the look of the early Carinas, I would personally reshell it, they're turning out to be a great alternative to other (heinously overpriced! ) RWD Toyotas!

Looking at the video...
You really didnt have a hope of getting out of that one.
Last time I was in a circumstance like that I ended up running the Bunderson off a very steep bank.

All okay though, a tree stump stopped me at about 40kph.

And that camera setup, clever. I'll have to replicate it in my rally car!

Yeah the video camera has been great (not just for catching this particular "moment") I guess I could post up some more of my racing video's.
I have one wideangle rear view mirror for me and one for the video camera. I'm still fine tuning it's location.
I got the mirrors from supercheap for $10 each. they have a clip to fasten onto the existing mirror - I made a bracket for the video camera mirror and it mounts onto the main hoop of the rollcage.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I have made a mount for my camera too, although it's a digital camera not a video camera.

Still, 6mp camera abd a 1gb memory card gives 15mins of continous video.
Only problem is it comes out in .mov or quicktime format, and the program I have to convert it looses so much quality.

I had to relocate it as it blocked my rear view for racing, but the new nount is all go and will be in use at the clubday on sunday.

Full length video of the race is now up (with a bit of editing while they took my car off the track). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdcEjLdp2LE

I folded up a box out of aluminium. I made a cardboard prototype first to check everything would fit ok. It has an open back and a hole in the front for the lens to look through. It has strips of high density foam to hold the camera. The box bolts to a braket on the X part of the rear stays of the rollcage. The mirror bolts to the top of the main hoop.
The camera slides into the box through the open back and looks out the hole in the front.

Neo - you comment of the "camera moving around" - it doesn't move at all. But what appears to be movement is actually the steady shot/anti shake function of the camera. The lens picks up a slightly wider view than it shows on the screen. If the camera shakes the frame of the picture is moved to reduce the shake shown on the camera. It does a good job as I have tried it with the anti shake function off.

Wow, that little green starlet was pretty quick off the line, what has it got in it?

Bigport 4age... power to weight ratio = good.

I must say, hats off to your composure. I think I would have done more than just throw my gloves off.

In regards to your next car selection... you currently seem quicker in braking and corner exit but well down on power to weight. You havent thought about going KP yourself?

Yeah - been thinking about a Starlet.
With the 4age Bluetop and T50 and cage - 960kg, 120hp if I was very lucky (300,000km engine)
With the 3sge and W57 and cage - 1020kg, 180hp
That Starlet was very quick off the line but I had faster lap times probably due to setup and experience. But faster lap times doesn't mean you will beat someone with a faster start!

Ken, why not Silvertop or G13 twin cam a KP. Certainly a cheaper option to get good eventual HP from it. My silvertops were 122 and 123 HP at the wheels, through a RWD stlye transaxle, and you can pick one up for under $500.

It certainly looks as if you know how to setup your car well as your lines were all over the place in an attempt to get past that blue (starlet?). You had braking, cornering and exit all over him. He just appeared to have a little more power.
I'd hate to see just how fast the Lancer RS rally car is. I think you'd give me a good run for my money!

In the video the blue car I am chasing is a civic (dammit).
The starlet is green... It gets away for a couple of laps then I pass it going slow due to it exhaust falling off - you can see the sparks coming off from underneath - hah.
Yeah - Keep to get the carina back on the track but I have been thinking about building a new racecar for about 2 years.
A mint starlet would probably do the trick. Engine... blacktop, altezza 3sge, maybe 2zzge! (mounting and bellhousing problems would need to be sorted). Gearbox - depends on cost/weight/availability factors... Hmmm I wonder what people will do when all the T50's are broken?

After having a chat with RedMist, he informed me that the 2ZZ is a bit of an unreliable engine. Has anyone had experience with these having problems? Interested to find out
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Ummmm... don't quote me on quoting that. As I was simply quoting another Toyspeed member. It was 10k20v (Ewan).
