painting with lacquer

Postby JamesM » Thu Aug 03, 2006 12:18 pm

i am painting my car. last time i painted it with 2pack enamel. this time i am using a lacquer as its much cheaper for me.
will i need to sand the car back completely (take all the enamel off) before i can prime the car? or is it ok to leave spots of the enamel from before and prime over that? is the primer goign to adhere to the enamel? (its just a surface primer)

thanks

with a good sealer primer you can get away with it...can. but ideally, as in the above ref'd link, best to get rid of it.
Ive done both ways and had both fine success, and reaction problems.
If you are planning on keeping the car for some time, and have the better finish without risk of reactions, Id remove.
Cant believe im still a member here.
