coil lead arcing to metal piping.

anyone else had issues with coil lead arcing and leaving big black marks?
coil-dizzy lead runs over an intercooler pipe and black burn marks keep appearing , i've cleaned the marks off a couple of times and they keep reapearing.

have checked lead for splits and cannot find any, lead is fairly new as the old one was an aftermarket one that split.

2 options , i can either buy a new genuine lead or buy an aftermarket one
are the standard leads just crap or is it something im doing?

im going to try and shrink extra insulation on the current lead with some raychem i have lying around ,not sure whether it would actually make a difference but worth a shot

Have you got an aftermarket coil but still running OEM lead? I'd say that you probably need to get an aftermarket lead with heaps better insulation. Probably run smoother too :)
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

nah tis a standard coil and lead , pretty much standard ignition system.
i reckon its pretty average that it isnt insulated well enough :? those marks are a c**t to get out

toyota leads are VERY good, even if they are thinner that does not mean anything. The reason it is arcing in that place is that the wire is cracked or rubbed through due to wear and tear...

Is it missfiring at all Jeremy? I didnt notice anything when I moved it today. I know h/t leads can actually leave that sort of black chalky marking when they just rub against things, but dont nessesarly cause any problems.

no havent noticed any misfires , its running pretty near perfect. just something that ive noticed over a period of time. good point actually , it could just be from rubbing againt the pipe, altho it does look a lot like a burn mark.
at 20 odd dollars a lead tho im not going to lose any sleep over it :P

ps i just made the connection to your ts name :D
