Probably because no one is dumb enough to have actually done it before.

Maybe he likes the platform and wants to drift it? You guys do enough RWD conversions to know whats involved, you should be encouraging this guy to have a go and learn about how hard it is!

I think in this instance, its very much a case of if you have to ask you wont be able to do it.

Yup. Here's just one of the things to think about on a list of 100 problems you encounter.

Steering rack. If you use a north south motor, it runs thru the bellhousing.

and Staying with a east/west engine gives bugger all advantage over 4wd or FWD. Still too nose heavy. Still have to drive too many gears diffs transfer case's etc etc which all rob power.
For our application just not worth it.

There probably is a way of doing it east/west, but dont know anyone who has bothered.

At the risk of getting the same puerile reply, what's involved in converting the gearbox to FWD?

Is it simply a matter of removing the centre diff, and replacing the front diff and cover plate with one from a 2wd model with the same gearbox case (Camry/Vista?).

i think so, i think thats what akanes doing with his 205 box

why not just use an sw20 box with shifter mods? or a fwd box from 3sge celica?

itll be a lot easier than rwd conversion anyway!

Think laterally... perhap I should have said 4wd the hard way ;)

Now that would be sacreligious, though I have looked at getting a 400iA as a cheap 12 cylinder Ferrari. Anyway you can't do that the a 308, the gearbox is underslung and there's no room to do it any other way so a Toyota box wouldn't work
