gt four boost.

Postby 135007 » Sat Aug 05, 2006 9:23 am

hey i'd lould like to know if some one could let me know what the st185 gt fours run as a standard boost setting.
i'm thinking of fitting a front mount and a external wastegate and was wondering if you guys could point out some pros / cons of the idea.
also if i fit the gate do a just remove the actuator off the old wastegate so it won't open any more?

5-6psi cold , 8-9psi warm.
frontmount yes . more lag, no heatsoak.
external no. more noise, no performance.
can only get 14psi on turbo before having to disable fuel cut. any more and ceramic exhuast wheel tends to separate from the turbo and make ugly mess.
weld old wastegate shut if you must fit an external.

best solution , ct26 turbo are crap , save up and buy a ct20b and use the internal gate on that.

key words to search , turbo vsv, ct26, st20b, 3sgte

seriosly, get CT20b and you will not regret it, for ST185 would be much easier to install it as well (compare to ST165).
Oh, also if you can don't do front mount but get ST205/185RC w/a setup, much better, also it separates you from 89 VR4 crowd.

CT20b is not really a CT20b, it is just an internet name for it. Actually it has nothing to do with CT20 which are on diesel/3TGTEs apart from being turbo by toyota.
CT20b is a twin entry turbo with dimensions similar to twin entry CT26...
Mainly it is found on ST205 celicas (and some late MR2 GT - i think), very rare in steel variant (mostly ceramic).
You can get brand new steel one for arround ~$1500-1600 from Mr Revhead.

the intake manifold is way different on caldina, you will have to modify the intercooler (reweld the outlet in different place) or use ST205 manifold (I have no idea if it will fit at all)...

he has an ST245, which has the center feed manifold, unlike the ST215 which has the sidefeed.

so hes got a MUCH better chance of making it fit than the st215 boys :D.

on that note went for a blat in one in the weekend, god, nice cars :D, i think i might jsut get one one day....

its was in one of the latest performance car mags, The race line one i think, its said from $1000, unless when they say from there meaning $1000 get you just the pump or something stupid like that.

I emailed them about 2 weeks ago just incase anyones interested they do ally radiators fot st185's for $1000, thats just the supply of the unit itself
