Video camera mount

Postby KinLoud » Mon Aug 07, 2006 2:49 pm

A couple of people ahave asked about how I mount my video camera in my racecar.
I made a cardboard dummy box to check fit and act as a template. Then I cut it out of aluminium and folded it up using a block of wood a vice and a hammer (I could have used stuff at work but it was quicker to bodge it up at home). A couple of rivits keep it closed up as a box rather than springing apart as it wanted to!
Made a bracket to fit it to my rollcage. Easy, sort of.
The bracket it bolts to looks a bit like frankensteins monster - the long rail was so the mirror could mount at the front end of it but now the mirror bolts to the main hoop above the camera.

I cut a opening in the side so I could look at the screen when setting the camera up.

I bough a wide angle lens - not really needed if you don't have one.
Small hole at the bottom of the front lets me see the "recording" light so I know it's working.
Also mounted a bike speedo where the camera can see it. I found one that would go up to 200 or 240kph!!!. It hasn't been working the last 2 racedays and I haven't got around to fixing it. I mounted the magnet on the diff output shaft.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

hell yeah. a masterpiece!

the setup i got is a bit too costly too which makes it ghey. only reason we went to the bullet camera was to try get rid of the vibration and amplified movement from being driven around.

Nice job Ken! Went out to the car and took shots from various points in the cage. Looks as if my cross member may be the best point, however you dont get to see much of the driver (good of bad thing?). I'll mock it up, bend it and get it welded this week.

I'll get some pic's of my camera mount.

Along the line of Ken's but 1/4 of the weight as it just supports a small hand held digital camera on movie mode with a huge memory card.

here are some of the movies it makes.

Hope this pic works and is not too large.

Mounts the camera where tha passengers head would be.
I have another that mounts it off the centre crossbar of the cage for when
you have a passenger, but block the mirror for racing.

hey MrOizo, how much was the bullet cam? I've been looking for something to replace the Sony DV cam I've been using. And then I suppose this leads to how much is the portable DV recorder?
