Silicon gaskets and other canned goodies that you use ?

Postby mops » Thu Aug 10, 2006 1:17 pm

Hello Guys.
I'm just wondering whether any of you who rebuild engines/do major work use those 'silicon gun gasket' stuff... the one you apply with 'silicon gun' to both sides of gasket (sometimes applied traight from toothpaste-like tube), that is in liquid, silicon-like paste form that dries overnight or something... I'm not sure what is the offical name for this stuff...

And i'm kinda wondering what other chemicals do you guys find usefull ?
I all the time use those in my garage (most in spray cans)
wd40 (alos great for batching overnight nuts and bolts in it to remove rust from them),
carb cleaner,
brake cleaner,
supercheap degreaser,
electrical clean and lube (really good stuff)
chain oil (kinda like wd40, but it's very sticky and stays where you sprayed).
electrical PCB cleaner (isoprpyl alcohol)
aswell I use anti-siezing compound by loctite (really good for exhaust nuts/bolts)
supercheap grease

But i do realize that some mechanics recommend using those 'liquid gaskets' for all seals on the engine (besides like head gasket, which should get a coating of sticky copper spray).... but I'm not sure where to get it..

Can anyone add some 'good stuff' chemicals to the list ?

Prepsoyl is just a really really soft cleaner, removes (light) grease and wax etc. but doesn't damage paint.

You can get loctite from pretyt much anywhere :/ i think even supercheap has it these days, anyone confirm?
