caddy converter removal

Postby Flunk » Sun Aug 13, 2006 12:55 pm

mmkai, so following everyones advice of " remove caddy, smash it, put it back" i have just been under my car, and pulled out the caddy ( assuming ive pulled out the right bit, its the section just below the extractors full of filters and the like? with a sensor coming in from the car )

anyways, whats the best way of smashing/breaking the internals of this?

Cheers

First off you got to get the name right is called a catalytic converter, aka "cat" If you want to remove the insides, which isn't a filter it is actually a ceramic honeycomb (I dont see any point in doing this) but anyway use a bit of pipe/screwdriver etc

If ur going to smash it out, make sure u do it over a bit of cardboard or something and keep it in as many pieces as possible, cats are made mostly out of Pt, which u can take to your local scrap metal yard and get some $$ on it.

Long flathead will do it.

If you're going to that extent just make up a pipe to go in its place and take the whole converter to the scrap yard

Was going to suggest that, get like 60-80 for a cat (that isn't full of shit). Was awesome when we took out my brothers cats in his 300zx, hurray for two >_<!
