TRD coil overs = classed as OEM??

I know of an SW20 with ajustiable height suspension in it. It has no cert, does it need one? Or is TRD classes as OEM.
Im sure Mr Smeghead has said before that TRD is classed as OEM. People are fighting me on this, as they should be as im not so sure my self :P

well apparently if you go yell at ltsa theyll check their regs, and have to let it pass,

and if they dont, then write a letter of complaint.

or yaknow, just do what id do, and not goto the bloody ltsa.

Whos stuipd enough to do that anyway?

I remember a thread debating this. There was something that allowed TRD to be OEM im sure of it...

LTSAs own definition is OEM includes a replacment part provided by the manufacter.
if i had TRD coilovers and was asked for a cert id show them the appropriate part of thier own rules and tell em to get fuct 8)

this has already covered twice.... and proven in real life several times.

So if MR VTNZ says "no you get fuct, trd is not toyota" (are they the same company?) Could toyota produce a letter to the effect saying they are infact oem?

Well just because Toyota own or run TRD it doesn't make it OEM. If this was the case you could say that any Jaguar part you fit to a Ford doesn't need cert as it is OEM!

But ford dont make parts designed for jaugar, and they are run as compleatly diffrent manufactures. Thats chalk n cheese.

It comes down to whether or not TRD stuff is made by the original manufacturer of the vehicle, ie Toyota

For a quick summary -

springs and spring seats are not height adjustable (unless OE)

and
OE means original equipment fitted at the time of manufacture of the vehicle, or a part supplied by the vehicle manufacturer


So, any reasonable person could come to the conclusion that TRD coilovers, made by Toyota (assuming this part is true), are considered OE parts, and OE adjustable height suspention is a legal item in a standard vehicle inspection.

Quote "VIRM: In-Service Certification, version 2, July 2003, Introduction page 48" for the definition of OE and "VIRM: In-Service Certification version 2, ammendment 1, March 2004, Page 9-1-4" for the suspention rules.

This is the LTSA's own words here, I can't see a way of interpreting it that would make TRD coilovers require a cert.

one of my mates who is a mechanic who also does wof's cleared this up for me ages ago. Basically adjustable suspension that was NOT in the car at time of manufacture, even if TRD or whatever, will need to be cert'd. Unless it came into the country with them on as was the case with my friend's pulsar that had adjustable nismo suspension in it. Anything you put in now will need to be cert'd. this was how it was explained to me.
