Is a 1600 turbo mirage a pos? or am I mistaken

Postby ollieboy » Wed Aug 16, 2006 1:59 am

I was driving along in my dads van the other day with 4 people in. This knob-jockey pulls up next to me at an intersection in a mirage turbo and challenged me to a drag. I assumed he would win/thought he was a moron so didn't even look at him. So the lights go green and I take off straight away not racing fully expecting the mirage to spool up and be away. I looked to the side to see if he was there because I thought maybe he had a bit of lag? But alas! there was no mirage so I shift my gaze again and see about 20 metres behind me its 'boosting' along. At this point I was confused. An injected forced induction 1600cc weighing very little with only 2 people in it vs. a n/a 1800cc carby townace with 4 people and tools and beer in weighing well over 1500kgs and yet I managed to beat the mirage off the line until he passed me about 200 metres down the road (It was a 50km/h area and I had reached 50km/hr so he was speeding.) clouds of blue smoke pouring from his bling cannon, his tail between his legs.

I was not racing, I know he was racing because of the large amounts of exhaust coming from behind his car, I also met him later on and now know him quite well, he asked what type of engine was in the van because “It boogied.” I didn't post this to brag about winning a race, I posted it to ask a simple question- are mitsubishi Mirages crap? I would think that for the reasons I listed vs the van he would have gone a lot faster than he did.

I don't race on the streets, here is why I wasn't racing that day:

My dad was in the passengers seat.
My mum was in the back seat.
It was a van full of stuff.
My mum is a policewomen so if she even thought I was racing on the streets she would rip my balls of and stick them up my ass so that when I sh*t, I would sh*t on my balls.

I admit I took off quickly, but it was because of the traffic lights, they are really quick changing so I get across as quickly as I can so people behind me have a chance of getting across. If you are ever in Christchurch, go to the intersection of Buchanans Rd and Carmen Rd and you will see how fast the lights are.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and please understand I am not a boyracer/street racer. Thankyou

My question is, do you think this was due to my skill at launching the van? the fact it was rwd vs fwd? or something else?

Or are Mitsubishi mirages just pieces of shit?

That's how vtax owners think they beat WRX's etc........ he's most probably not racing you. I can make my car sound like "max b00stin !!11!!1one!11" but I ain't racing, especially with the Glanza V that I drive to work everyday with.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
