Replacing rear main seal

Postby cosi » Fri Aug 18, 2006 3:35 pm

My engine is a 4age bluetop and has lots of oil all through the bellhousing. I think its engine oil not gearbox oil, at least I hope so anyway. Once the engine is out and the clutch/flywheel off, what do I do next? Are there any tricks or special tools needed to replace it?

Do I need to dump out all the oil from the engine considering Ive only just changed it less than 500km ago?

you don't need to drain oil.
There are two ways to do it:
Pry out the old seal with screw driver, press in new seal.
If it does not work, undo 10mm bolts arround seal housing and remove it, push out the seal, insert new seal, use sealant to reseal the seal housing tighten bolts in small increments.
