Couple questions

Postby TRD_ZERO » Sat Aug 19, 2006 9:08 pm

Hi i got a three piece extractor set they are fgk im just wanting to know if they are any good as ive heard they are average, but id like your input. Another question ive got a water temp gauge in my car and it goes all the way up to 90 which im guessing is degrees and sometimes goes higher when im just idling i popped the bonnet the radiator fan isnt running. My factory temp gauge doesnt go over halfway so either the factory one is stuffed or i dnt know......... when should my fan kick in?

1. FGK are japan made and usually are quite good. But depends what car it is for, if its for a 20V blacktop, then I will place my bet on factory ones.
2. 90 seems normal. the only reason your factory temp gauge don't go so high is because car factories wouldn't want to freak people out with needles jumping up and down. imagine if an average guy drives it, if the factory temp keeps jumping up and down, i think it will freak them out. Thats the whole point of having a after market temp gauge - to be more accurate and precise.

OH ok so you say im pretty safe with it going round 90 degrees then and dont have to worry much?? round about what temp does the fan kick in at??? Yeah the extractors are on a blacktop 20v so ur telling me that they are actually downgraded by putting the fgk ones on there and would be better off putting the factory ones back on?? Dnt u think fgk would have made either something similar or a little better rather than making it worse???

1) when the fan kick in i am not 100% sure, but when i still had my temp gauge in my car, i think it goes all the way to 100 (when i push it hard) then it drops back down, so i would imagine somewhere between 90-100. as it never goes over 100.
2) although its made in japan, it dosen't necessarily mean they can be better. It really depends how u define better. If you do some research on extractor design, you can find heaps of information - and the factory turbline extractors ARE pretty GOOD! and wht I heard from most people's experience is even with japan extractors, they are most likely to raise the HP by 1 -5 hps, BUT you are more than likely to kill your torque......SO......i wouldn't change it if you still want to keep your torque. In my opinion, a few Hps with the consequences of loosing heaps of torque, I wouldn't do it....well thts just me. 8)
