Piston Choice.

Postby Silent Knight » Tue Aug 22, 2006 2:11 pm

I'm going to be in the market for a set of new pistons and rods soon and
I have found some fairly good prices over in America.

I was just wondering if you guys could share your views on choice of
piston and size.

I have a choice between JE, Wiseco or Arias pistons.

At the moment I am fairly keen on a package that includes
Pistons/Rods/Rings etc all in one for a bit of a discount price.

One set that I have been concidering is the below from E-Bay:
This One

What are your experiences with pistons? Who makes good pistons and who makes bad pistons? I'd like to know a bit before I commit to ordering the parts for my 2J.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Regards,
Hanré

JE's for sure, use them on all our race engines and never had a problem.
Dads mate has a 700hp BMW 2002 with JE's and had them in for 3 years now and they had virtually no wear on them!!! after many many miles of doing Targa Events and the festival of speed down south island!

but that kit u listed is a great buy!!!!

Have you looked into getting your rods shot peened? im sure they would be more than up to the task you have in line for them.

I'd rather go all new parts in the new build if I can help it.
I'm aiming for 6-700whp...

Doesn't he have a write somewhere on SC of what parts he's used in his build?
Other than that I have no idea how to contact him. :P

Hence the groves above the top ring, this reduces detonation as it provides more surface area :D

Seriously big skirt, whats its rod to stroke ratio?

The Bunderson runs a set of Arias pistons. And given the beating I have given them they have performed amazingly well.

JE are renouned for constructing a very good piston, and about the only other manufacutrer I would consider for replacement pistons.
The answer is Helmholtz!

It is going to work cheaper for me to get the Arias and Eagles as the JE and Eagles. I can't get the JE & Eagles in a pakcage deal...
