Drivers side windows not working

Don't really know a lot about cars, so thought I would ask here.

My drivers side electric window just doesn't want to work (in a 92 AE101 levin). The door lock, window lock and passenger windows all work (from the same control that the drivers window button is on), so i'm not really too sure what it might be.


I'll take off the door card at some stage (raining atm), but is there anything else it could be that is easy to fix other then wiring (like are there seperate fuses for each window etc)?

When you try and wind the window up does it make a clicking sound? Basically inside the door there is a cable and electric motor that winds the window up or down. Its common for the cables to derail and break. If the cable is jammed the motor will make a sound when you try and operate it.

If the mechanism is damaged the only way to fix it is by replacing it. Youre lucky if its an electrical problem and not a broken window mechanism

are all the plugs connected ?

Well, they should be, as it was working and I haven't touched the drivers side at all. I did remove the inside of the passenger door to get at that speaker the other day, but that window still works fine.

Just had a quick read on some pages and found this.

Some common power window problems include all windows inoperative, one window inoperative, or poor performance of a given window. A circuit breaker usually protects the power window circuit; the breaker usually resets itself after a circuit overload. You may want to check your car’s owner’s manual to find the breaker and make sure it’s connected properly to the fuse/relay panel.

I did disconnect the passenger side the other day, so maybe it is this? Anyone know where abouts this is in a AE101 Levin?

Took out the door card today, and tried operating the window. When I go to use it (both up and down, it is stuck up atm) it does make a small 'click' sound, nothing too big (can hardly hear it with the cover on).


So does this point towards it being a cable problem? or power getting to the motor, but since it is broken, it just makes a click?

what also causes issues is the contacts on the switches... after time with use the contacts dirty, pull the switch to bits clean the contacts and see what happens also you could bypass the switch to see if its the switch or motor

You might have to just take the entire thing out and check it over. Bare in mind that if you buy a second hand unit/motor etc from a wrecker there is no guarantee that that one will last very long either. But if you buy a brand new one they can cost up to $500 for some cars

So, I got a new second hand motor for my door, and it works...kind of.

The motor itself works (the old one was the problem), however I am having troubles connecting the cable that lifts and lowers the window. It is one long cable that starts at the window regulator, up to the top of the door, around a small wheel, down by the window, around another small wheel, then back to the motor.

I have got it all connected, and I managed to raise the window up (as when I disconnected the motor it naturally wanted to go down). But now I am stuck trying to get the tension and length in the cable right. As I have it at the moment, it holds the window up, but if I go to put the window down the cable becomes to loose and comes off the bottom wheel/rail.

Is there any trick to attaching this cable at the right tension? I read that having the window half open helps, so will try that in the coming week.

that cable is part of the regulator...
its pretty much one part
if thats causing issues you need to get a new one
