Winterizing engines

Postby RedMist » Mon Aug 28, 2006 12:51 am

With the Rose transaxle in billions of bits and a new Rally car toy in the garage, the 4age will see little use in the next 9 or so months (until I save the money to put it together again or the 14k for an Ablins) and want to winterize the engine.
I've already drained the fuel and ran the engine dry. I've left the coolant lines attached (Its got a good deal of a corrosion inhibitor antifreeze in it).

Just wondered what everyone else does to winterize, if anything? Fill her to the brim with oil?
The answer is Helmholtz!

I'd occasionally run oil down the bores, turn it over by hand a few times maybe.

How long would you an engine be stored before you should need to do this?

I'm asking because I have a 5K which I'm not going to be starting on for some time yet, how long is it safe to leave it until I want to use it?

The old man suggested filling it up to the brim with diesel.

I use this technique occasionally with long standing project engines.just enough oil to cover the bores when cranked by hand afew times.
+ afew drops here and there on other areas.
Cant believe im still a member here.
