5MGE MA61, timing now?? won't go.

the MA61 i have recently picked up to get me about while corolla waits for completion has sprung a bad oil leak. it seems to be coming from the intake side of the engine near the front of the crankcase. initially thought was hose which runs from rocker cover to bottom of crankcase so put new clamps on it and the leak stopped! until sunday afternoon. it seems to leak more sometimes and less others i have had a look but can't see anything. sump is intact and it is only leaking when under pressure. please help!

May have seen this - it could well be the cam tower gaskets. If the engine has not been apart since day one the cam tower gaskets (also known as camshaft housing gaskets) leak and I noticed with mine, it did it more when over 100 km/h.....

thats like the opposite to me, driving a fxgt while my MA61 is off the road.

Yeah, like what david said, those gaskets are very prone to leaking.

If all else fails, get alot of degreaser give it a good clean and then go from there, should be easier to locate.

ok haven't been near internet for a long time, one of the downsides of moving out of home. i am hoping someone can confirm the timing marks on the 5mge for me, had not been running well lately and has been fouling plugs, yesterday wouldn't run at all, lined it up with wat we believe the timing marks are and the intake side was well out. have since adjusted it but still nothing

the timing marks on the cam pulleys are obvious. but we're not completely sure about the ones on the cover, we think they're the indentations along the top?

Hey man, If your still having trouble I had similar probs with mine after the conversion. Blow buy was the cause of a lot of it. the timing marks are easy to spot, if you need to compare your welcome to prod at mine.
