6 Speed gearbox acts up

Hi all,

I have an ae111 bzr trueno and the gearbox has started acting up when the car is warm (or it's been in use for a little while).

Car starts and drives fine but after a while it gets more and more difficult to get it into gear until it is nigh impossible. There isn't really any grinding to speak off tho the car does make a little clunk in between gears.

I've checked the clutch cyc and it's still full, there's no leakage around the clutch master cyc or the slave cyc so I'm at a bit of a loss as to whats going on.

Can anyone help?? Failing that can anyone recommend any good mechanics in the central city? (wellington).

how long has it been since the gearbox oil was changed?
check that no engine mounts are broken

sounds odd that its when its warm not cold.

gear box oil? honestly, no idea.. Not in the last 37000kms since i've had it.

it's not an engine bang it's more of a gearbox clunk as it goes into gear., not a bad one, just makes a noise

On level road, turn off the car, put it in 1st gear, clutch fully pressed start the car, and see if it start to roll... if it rolls than it means clutch does not disengage fully, probably because of leaky slave/master cyl or air in it...

Also it pays to check oil, you will need 24mm ring spanner or socket with power bar, on level surface put the car on axle stands (so it is level), remove gearbox plastic under tray, you will see big nut (24mm) on the side of the gearbox (on the same level as the clutch slave cyl. ), put an oil tray underneath (just incase if oil starts dripping), undo that nut/plug if oil does not come out, stick your finger in there and feel if you can reach oil. If you cannot you will need to top it up. It is best to use castrol syntrax in your one (due to helical LSD) but multitrax should be fine. Best way to get oil level right is to leave that plug open and fill it up from plug on the top of the gearbox (where the gear shifters comes out), untill it start pouring from other hole.
Saying that, before filling up, you will have to investigate were the old oil went (worn shaft seals is very common leak area). Unless you have a clutch job done and mechanics forgot to fill it up....

Thanks for your answer.. Clutch was replaced ~ 2 years ago so dunno if thats a problem. There seems to be no leaking anywhere and unfort I can't jack the car up to have a perve (live in an apartment building).

I will have to take it down the mechanics I think, thanks for your help tho

i think that the problem is the gearbox. you should sell it to me and get a new one

Hmmm, can anyone recommend a good (also not so expensive ) mechanic somewhere in central Wellington?

I have limited driving capability and will need to take it somewhere over the next couple of days, taking public transport for 2.5 hours a day sucks the fat one

hey anyone that cares, the problem with the car was a bit had broken off the clutch and was getting trapped in the pressure plate fingers, causing it to not compress properly

so if anyones suffering the same fate of it randomly stopping working correctly that coudl be it
