LSD noises

I have a TRD LSD fitted to a C52 gearbox, I am using a redline shockproof gear oil. Under power on gravel its awesome and likewise on asphalt, but normal "town" driving its pretty noisy around slower corners-clicks and crunches!! Would this prematurely wear out the LSD plates as this particular oil does not have the 'slip' additive in the oil that most LSD oils have?? I believe this additive is available separately from redline oil distributors but I can imagine that this additive only provides a slip factor to soften the aggressiveness of a plate LSD. This car is not a daily driver but a weekend club car so I hope I am not damaging the plates by not using the additive? Your comments appreciated.

My car is exactly the same, everyone I've asked in the car club says that it is just normal plate LSD behaviour and not to worry. Doesn't seem right to me though (I can feel it slipping and then grabbing through the steering wheel) so I'd be interested in feedback from others. I'm running Elf 75W90 synthetic LSD oil (again recommended by others in the club).

Frankly, if it's not slipping & banging on normal use I'd be more worried.

We have always used a gear oil specified for LSD use. There was some suggestion a while ago that opinion had moved away from this but I've never been an expert on oil so I stuck with what had proven reliable for me. We've never had a failure.

I would recommend that at some time you pull it out & make sure that it is in the 2 way position.
The only failures we ever saw as agent were from LSD's with broken ramps that were rallied in the std 1.5 way mode.

Thanks Bruce, that is reassuring to know. Now I know it is normal behaviour I might be tempted to take it out for the odd tarmac Motorkhana (which I've been avoiding for fear of breaking it)
