Setting up a Gizzmo (Ibc) Boost Controller

Postby Crucible » Sun Sep 03, 2006 12:41 am

Is any one here using a Gizzmo (IBC) Electronic boost controller?
Im having trouble setting up the boost levels.

Going as "per" instruction manual, I cant get into the boost feature to set things up! I can get into the duty cycle menu, but it keeps going back to the main screen at the start instead of to the next menu which is to set boost !!!!!!!
Is it rooted or am I just missing something here? Its plumbed and wired up spot on just cant set the damn unit up...

its brand new off Trade me but exactly the same as this one.

Any one experianced problems with setting these up before??....any ideas?

thanks

isn't the duty cycle menu the one you want anyway? tells the solenoid how long to open for, hence setting the boost level?

Yeah, I think you are right. I done another search and come up with this...

viewtopic.php?t=40391&highlight=gizzmo

I think it may be just a matter of playing with the duty cycle, roadtesting it to see how much boost it will pull on the "set" duty cycle and then adjusting it till i get what boost level I want. The manual says to set up the boost level after setting duty cycle and doesnt say anything about driving it at all, and there isnt a boost level setting like it suggests on the controller screen anyways? Its like the instruction manuel was written up by someone that doesnt know how to use it or something???.....crappy instructions!!!!

Ill play around with it and post up my findings just incase someone else gets stumped like myself 8O

cheers

you gotta set the levels while driving,
when on the road, press and hold the top button until the screen starts flashing, then you set your duty cycle %, do it quick cos if you leave it for a few seconds itl go back to the main screen, once you set the duty cycle, put your foot down in 2nd or 3rd gear and the boost level will climb, if it goes past the level you want, start the process again but with a lower duty cycle, keep doing this until you have the settings you want.
Not the easiest thing to set up :x
and make sure your out in the country in a 100km zone if you want to set it to a highish level, some of the speeds I was hitting while trying to enter in 18psi were a bit of a worry

Just went for a run along the motorway and set it up as you suggested, I have a low and high boost setting now, and it seems to hold boost at the set levels quite well.
Im happy as! lol :D

Did you notice any differance with (ass-o-meter) when playing with the gain on yours ??

a hell of a lot, I found setting the gain to 1/2 of your boost level gives a good comprimise between quicker spooling and minimal boost spike, I occasionally spiked about 0.4-0.5psi
with the gain up I break traction when I hit boost in 2nd gear
not bad for a near stock mr2 with wider tyres and lsd

I hvant noticed too much of a gain putting the gain up allthough it does seem to spool quicker. (hard to say thoough, could just be the placebo effect)

I set the gain to just over half the boost value, doesnt seem to spike much but in 5h it does become unstable only sometimes, think thats the crappy internal wastegate though.

Yeah I was actually thinking of setting to half. Ill try that and see how it goes, maybe just knock it down a tad if it does spike. Im happy with it now, actually looks quite bling at night :D .
Was just a pity they never spent time making the manuel a bit more user friendly, but is actually very easy to set up once you know how lol

thanks for the help guys...

My high setting is actually quite low haha, 12psi - (dont laugh lol) and low 8psi , Im stil concerned about driving it at the moment because of the lack of fuel, I really just wanted to get the controller working sweet so the tuner can up my boost etc when it eventually goes back on the dyno with new ecu.

So you got your manifold back from Dan, bet your hanging to see what the new turbo is like!!!! :D

yea thats right, just keep increasing the duty cycle until you reach the desired boost level while driving on mway etc, if you set the duty cycle and the boost level is below or above what you want youll have to start again.

Got it working cheers. Haha I was just doing duty cycle then letting it go back to main menu and driving it and it kept free boosting. Stupid instructions. Sorted now :D

Yeah once you know how they are fairly easy to set-up, and yes the instructions are completely useless and put you totally off track. I spent like 4 hrs trying to set it up as per instructions but once mr2sik told me how it took like 5 mins :D

sweet you got it sorted 8)

I have been given a MS-IBC to try in my car.

Supposedly better as they run closed loop control, and also has a spike stop function.

Will be interesting to see how it goes when i get it setup as spiking is a problem in a boost limited class.
