Can you convert T40 to T50 by...
Changing all the guts over?
Are the T40 and T50 casings the same? Can you take a T40, gut it, and swap in T50 insides?
Or are the T40s different...
Also. Has anyone tried strengthening the factory T50 internals? I was considering using a TRD gearset but they're quite pricey and I don't think the ratios will work all that well in a mainly street driven car. I thought for the same price as the TRD gearset it might be possible to just strengthen up the standard internals.

from what iv found it can be done
but its not a simple job
my gear box expert cant recall what the issues are but it is to do with the rear housing and he thinks its the selector mechanism, something along the lines of the t50 parts not fitting properly and need a combo of both, but hes not 100% coz he hasnt done it for years

I think that answers that then...
Unless you're building up one mean mother of a frankinstein hardened T50... Don't bother starting with a T40.
In fact. Even if you are building up one mean mother of a frankinstein hardened T50, don't start with a T40, unless you can get it for a dollar, and can do all the work yourself.

Mean! There's a 1S housing for a T40.
Wonder how long it will last.
Do T40s have much of a resale value, or more to the point, will they take 200ish hp without problems?
Maybe I'll still be better off going straight to W5*

nah bro....you just pay all that plus a little bit more and get this

That's pretty much what I envisage for my before mentioned "mean mother of a frankinstein hardened T50".2LTR Rona wrote:nah bro....you just pay all that plus a little bit more and get this![]()

Not necessarily. There is always a trade-off. A W5X gets its strength from sheer size/mass. A "mean mother of a frankinstein hardened T50" gets it strength from superior materials and construction. There are times when that weight makes a difference.Jebus wrote:So moral of the story is, of you have an engine and wallet worthy of building "one mean mother of a frankinstein hardened T50", you may as well get a W5X
