???kw = decent drift vehicle?

just out of curiosity in my drunken state and on my way to saving the world, what sort of kw would a vehicle need to be putting out to make a decent drift car? obviously a standard 4k with a pair of downdraught twincarbs wouldnt cut it but what about a stock standard 4age with the right setup? (w55 box, hilux lsd or locker)

do drink cars need to be caged?

Theres nothing I hate more than a lame drunk post with intentional mis spellings.

Karl Skewes, Keith Pun, both ripped D1 to shreds with Stock blue or red tops, both run lockers, pretty sure keith run Stock AE86 drivetrain where as Karl had W55 and G code.

Either way, these dudes do/did really well, makes it 42342 times harder to win an event, and besides these guys can really drive.

Best option would be, dont post threads about it, take ya car out with stock 4age, give it all youve got, if ya cant do it, you dont have the knack or ya just need more power.

Actually, I have a drift battle mag somewhere with a 4K or 5K starlet with sidies, also a datsun sunny with sidies, both look pretty sideways to me!

Its' not the size of the motor, its' the suspension setup, and the size of your balls that dictate how well you do. With low power, speed and low weight are the key.

interesting. i wouldve though ti towuld be a lot more than that.

and jebus, it wouldnt inte4tinoal,.
did/does keith have nay problems with his gearbox/diff? ive been tolb (by other TS members) that thats what ruins the t50s more than anythibng else - dropping the clutch, drifting, burnouts etc etc.

but i i was thinking something like the lines of turbo, w55 with lsd/ locker.

i suppose that would b e the decent setup so you dont have to replace gearboxs and diffs evey few weeks.though.

not suprising, the old 4k i nmy sr would get prety sidways in the right condit8ions - on a completely wet surface!!!~ :?
but i suppose on a trkccak it would more be the speed and momentum of the vhiecle that helps, once tracion is broken then its up to the driver to keep it going to the next courner.

I think hes only started having problems with the T50 after years of abuse, But dont quote me on it PM him.

As RS13 says, its alot to do with your ball size. Theres a KP61 with a worked 5K who won the D1 Finland, against big power Nissans. If youve got the balls, bit of practice and youll have no trouble.

Depends where you live..
in NZ its very hard to do well with 4age.. pukekohe is your only hope due to the entry speeds...

In short .. the level the competition is at now it would not be competitive.
Small tight tracks all good ... but not your normal ..

so either need big run up or tight and twisty .. then a turbo nissan still gonna kill you

Hi,

My ae86 is stock.. apart from suspensions, exhaust, wheels, and I got TRD 2 way LSD.

Last last drift car.. TE71 Levin GT .. same thing... stock 2TGEU, T50, but run locker. Is alot harder to drift.. due to no power.. Just make it up from enterie speed.. don;t slow down much for corners... and the rear run old harded tyres... Enduro, Kelly etc are good.

How a car last is how you drive it. I don't normaly do clutch kick. Also I don;t do burnout as that's one way to kill your diff. Just go fast into the corner and flick it.... control the lost control car thru out the corners... that's my way of doing it anyway... not Nissan way which is floor it until the end... in other word.... moving burnout..

As drifter4ag said... in NZ series, u need big power car to win. Else just compete for fun as I and some others did.

ah and the last time I dyno my ae86 which is about 2 years ago and I got 85KW at wheel on rolling dyno, then last year on hub, i got 68kw. :?

4k and sidies and whatever doing a skid on gravel or whatever at stuff all speed is not the same.

get a nissan, or if that doesnt apply then you must be out there already.

Because it's already put all the mustard on its triple cheese burger, it's too damn fat

I suppose another factor is lack of factory manual soarers, initial purchase price, cost to modify to a competetive level, lack of suitable aftermarket parts.

You know what would be a cool Toyota drifter...

GX61 Mark II hardtop, complete with fender mirrors, and oldschool dished to hell rims. Two tone paint, imagine that going sideways, it would be superb.

Z20 would make a very good base.

Problem is spare parts for them are very very rare and when you find them they are very expensive. :?

Z20 would make a very good base.

I've got a Z20 with 1JZ, and was lucky enough to find another (crashed) one to use for parts, but as you said, really expensive for spares, if you can find them. I imagine it would drift rather well, i have to be really careful with mine as it gets loose really easily.

I went the easy way to drift, turbo nissan, heaps of parts out there and everything has been done before so you can learn from others mistakes etc, being original is waaaay cooler if ya can afford to though. Rwd GT4/Caldina GTT? That would be cool to see

Bah... Z20's are poo for drift... they handle like crap, have shitty steering lock, weigh a ton, come out factory with either an engine that couldn't pull its way out of a wet paper bag (1G) or an engine that runs like its made out of a wet paper bag (7M), they're stupidly expensive to buy, impossible to find/buy upgrade parts for, any performance parts are near impossible to source in this country and cost nearly as much as a complete nissan drifter...

You should all just go buy cefiros and drift them, don't you know they're the mack daddy ultimate drift car and you get all the honeys as soon as you buy an auto NA one, put a big exhaust on, cut the springs and slap drift stickers all over it!!!!!

PS. Not in any way is my rambling biased at all!
