but what time do the gates open? i seen somewhere saying it was 11 and somewhere else saying it was 9

d1gp.co.nz says 9am start for prac, 20 bucks is kinda steepish though, spose it does got till 4ish or so though (looks to be good weather for it aswell)

in palmy it rained so bad I left

It always rains when there is the D1nz on at palmy

poured down at couple of points for the d1nz when it was here earlier in the year. The rain makes the track more slippery, but they seem to back off a bit when its raining, and also the fact that standing around in the rain kinda dampens the spirits a little

was a pretty good day accept the jap cars didnt go out

and the field was all nissans

but there was some good drifting out there

I thought it was a real let down

Jap drifters didnt show off the skills
Keiichi Tsuchiya wasnt even there
only Nissans

Hardly worth the $20. D1NZ does a much better job showcasing a drift event.

it was shit, i dont think i will go to another. i think we should get a refund as the only reason to go was to see the japanese cars and then they just didnt show.

yea that was a real let down and definatly not worth the $20, but still it was my first drift event so i didnt really mind. i thought the judging was a bit average though some of those calls were a bit jubious, especially steve vail and adam richards battle i thought steve had it easily, he was going mint all day.

i payed my 20 to go and and see no cars on the track for about an hour, it was mint, then they finally bought some cars out and my day went downhill

Yeah, I think drifting in general is losing its' novelty value. I didn't even bother going, went into work instead. I'd prefer to be bored and get paid for it!

Yet the first event for Drift south was a well organised event and ran smoothly, don't forget this has now been a Motorsport New Zealand recognised class in NZ. Before there weren't any "proper" rules from what my sources tell me, give it time and don't be too impatient people. Early days yet,

from what i have read, D1GP events are poorly-run shite, but do offer the opportunity for NZers to compete in the world series (funds permitting!).
D1NZ have distanced themselves from them as many guys believed the events were being run by them, and a few are pointing the finger at Ruapuna/CCC/Drift South, but as i understand, the track was hired by D1GP and the day was run by them with assistance.

it was run poorly compared to the d1nz at the start of the year, alot of people were leaving after 3ish, where it still had quite a while to go, i think most people got bored of the huge waits.

thats right, purely run by D1GP (nz) , and D1GP (jp) pulled the jap drifters from it at the last minute,

certainly didnt seem to do Ruapuna/CCC/Drift South any favours
