Wouldn't need the death penalty if putting people in prison actually worked.

The "minor" crims come out worse than they went in (and so reoffend at harder crime), and the hardened crims just spend a few years hanging out with their crim mates.

Not saying prison is easy - but it doesn't seem to deter crime and it certainly doesn't rehabilitate crims.

Texas is flat-tach giving the people the chair - yet they also have a huge line of people waiting on death row - so maybe the death penalty isn't a deterant either.

I'm all for tougher punishment IF it works - at the moment all it seems to be doing is creating harder criminals

I think prison should consist of constant solitary confinement for all at all times, no tv or internet... just a library service, correspondence courses and gym equipment. This way the prison sentences could be short and no-one would want to go back.

some people are just so f**ked in the head that they should have the death sentence. No matter what they go through it won stop them, it just makes them more motivated to kill again
