that would be a bit of a downsizing though wouldnt it? If a 4wd 3sgte is having trouble towing a lil corolla, The asthmahic RB20 wont have a shit show

No they're the model before the RD28, a much better engine that will last in excess of 500k if treated properly, The RD28's are crap, and you be lucky to get one to last to 200k.

e39 BMW 540i.

Can get 1996-7 for around $20k-$24k.

Nearly as quick as an e36 m3 with the 4.4 litre v8. Decent boot, usually come fully equipped with all leather, TV, electric heated seats etc, great handling large car. Free up that exhaust and mmmmmm v8 goodness.

Yeah, I towed my old MR2 on a trailer with a Prado, and it didnt really seem to phase it. 1KZTE seems to be a strong motor.

what about the lexus/toyota sedans that come with the lexus v8 santa?

theres a whole raft of cars that came fitted with that engine. early aristos,i think some celsiors, ls400 i think too.

thats what i want in a couple of years time to tow the car . they are getting really cheap , reasonably big, most come fitted with leather interiors etc the 4.0L v8 is pretty comfortable towing shit. minor issue is they are pretty damn ugly and boring.

failing that , if you can find one and want to be a bit different , the nissan v8 sedans are pretty cool

its not neccessary to resort to diesel just yet

but, if so, would i buy petrol or diesel if its all going to be ripped out anyway

guessing this could turn into an expensive exercise:

probably wheels too
new motor

bla bla bla

Sounds like you need a surf with a 2JZ in it.......
I honestly dont know why they never had them in from the factory instead of the sad assed 3ZV-E

hmm Aristo/Soarer type thing, hadnt thought of that...

the Dina can tow, but its on boost constantly if you do so
(havent towed the racecar yet, im working towards that also)
and its not like i would be towing all the time, hence why i want something i can drive in a fun mannor daily :)

that Beamer is nice, but i dont think id get that much selling the Dina

yes Hilux's seem to be damn expensive - its all those little fcuks who want "to bag my lowlux auuu" who have helped drive up the price :(
and why would anyone want any laurel, in any shape or form, apart from said above munters wanting to be some dickwad drift-wannabe

i was thinking about the 2JZGTE, but wouldnt that be on constant boost also?
1UZ is looking attractive, about $1k for motor, + link + tuning -- so maybe $3-4k for the conversion? throw that into a 6-8k hilux/surf, still have enuff left over after selling the Dina to get a nice trailer, or put wheels, upgrade suspension/audio/visual of said surf/hilux

I don't think you're going to get a good tow wagon, that's also going to be a nice daily driver ... well, not without paying a zillion bucks anyway.

Most passenger cars will suffer when you tow with them. Which is why the big suckers like the 4x4's and Vans are so popular with motorsport peoples.

Guess you've just got to decide what's going to work for you.

The cheapest thing to do would probably be to keep the Caldina, unless you reckon that towing with it might result in something lunching itself.

And IMO autos are far better for towing. Id be reccomending a commy/falcon, but then good luck finding a manual one.
