Hamilton Members Help Me!!!!!

Postby Tha_INS » Sun Sep 24, 2006 5:14 pm

Hi,

I'm not too good with cars but recently I got into an accident in my AE111 Levin and it is damaged and I need some advice on fixing it from the members of Hamilton where i currently live.

One of the rear tyres is kind of bent out of shape rendering the car undrivable. I dont know the exactly name of the part but one of my friends said the strut is broken and as you can see in the pictures below something has been snaped.

I would like any advice on how to fix the fault and get the car going as cheaply as possible and I will save towards the cost of the cosmetic surgery later. I just want to primarily get the car running

I'd take it in to get everyting checked over. To be honnest, I really doubt just the strut is broken and expect there will be some bent/missaligned components/rear end. Insurance wise it quite possibly would be a write off.

If it does drive (with the space saver on), take it into your local pannel shop. quotes are free, and it will give you an indication on what is required to be done.

lol, actually, i'd agree and take back my statement. I was thinking of a bent rear end without actual broken stuff...lol

...could get it towed or see if any local pannel shops have someone who will come out mobile for quotes.

I'm no expert, but dont think it would be written off for the sake of a few suspension parts....

i should know  had a "prang" myself

But as said above, get it check by a panel shop, as not all the damage will be visable, best to be sure you have everything covered.

Umm some chick didnt stop for a give way sign an plowed straight into me but I got no insurance and neither does she.....which is kinda gay she did give me a few hundred to cover the damages but prob not enough to fix the whole thing......was thinking of taking the above pics to Frankton tomorrow to get some quotes from the abundance of panel and paint guys there and see how it goes. I have also email K-Road with the pics to see if they can quote me the price of the parts so I can compare to the prices quoted from the places to make sure I aint getting ripped

It will be alot more than a few hundred to fix all that damage.

It's close to a write off really. The suspension parts which will need to be replaced will be around $500~700 alone if you replace with brand new parts (which you should do).

The panel beating to the side would be between $1000 to $2000, depending if they pull out the dent or just chop off the side and replace it. Then there's the panel work to the door, and then painting costs on top which is usually around $200 per panel.

You can easily have a bill of over $3000.

There's a lesson to be learnt - always have insurance, even if it's third party as it covers accidents like this (uninsured drivers at fault crashing into you). If you can't afford insurance then you can't really afford to own a car.

I hope you have that girls details, I would take her to court if I were you. Driving around with no insurance is just plain stupid - and this is a perfect example why.

To give you an idea, I have been quoted between $1200 to $2200 from around 10 different panel beaters to fix this damage on my car:

If was just suspension I'd agree, but the body damage is fairly large and boarders on some structual areas- thats bigger $$

I was quoted about $2500 from the above pics emailed to a panel beaters in chartwell Im gonna hit actual garages today......Im a student and work only part time getting minimum wage so insurance I cant really afford at the moment.....I probably wont even be able to pay for the damages and may have to take out a few overdrafts and then pay the banks back. right now I kind of only want to get the suspension fixed so I can actually drive the bloody thing.......the door wasnt damaged...well theres a scrape but thats it so the damage is pretty much the suspension and that main side panel

Yeah as above, the actual cost of the car is only a small portion of the cost of owning a car.

I pay about $5 a week for third party fire and theft insurance on my car - it's peace of mind cover incase I run into a $100,000 Mercedes and write it off.

Moral of the story - it's absolutely stupid not to have insurance.

ex fixing panel damage...
easly under $500 pending on wrecker price, but its not all that, replacement arms hub and shock to be sure, and just make sure no mounts are bent....

but it looks more like all the pressure on the wheel went onto tilting it and braking the shock not pushing the hub back and bending arms but hard to see in the pics

getting the 1/4 hammered out an painted is the costly part
