cant forget the mighty 4g13 out of 80's mirages, they redline at 6 but happily went to 8k, just ended up without a clutch so it went to pick a part

Id have to say 2E FTW, Ive seen these motors take so much punishment and still keep on going. My 2et was running 16psi at 17:1 a/f for months and still didnt melt anything.
I had another 2et that had 260,000kms on it, still had the oringal headgaket, and it still went hard.
And when you see them constantly with over 300,000kms with out a rebuild they have to be a pritty bullet proff motor

A reliable 4AGE will go faster than a B16A or B18C that has gone boom :P
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Standard blacktop vs a standard b16a, my money is on the vtec, my blacktop has only 124kms on it and it really needs a rebuild where the bros ef9 had 240kms and it was only just starting to smoke

out of the left field...

The fiat Uno 900 cc motor,

ask AE85_coupe about that one, his old man told him that if he blew it up he could get a 1300 engine, despite his best efforts it did not blow up, that and the 3a handled alot of abuse,

As far as respect goes, ive never driven one, but im sure the 1uzfe has to be up there a v8 that can reach the revs that it does has to be good in my books

1UZ is small though, only around 240 cubic inch. It should rev, pretty much just a couple of 3S's bolted together

The best engines out there which will get the most respect are mostly from Europe...

Mate the only reason eurpean cars and engine are perceived better is because they cost more.. bang for buck you cant beat toyota... look at the crazy power ratings they have got out of the 2j's, 4a's and 3s's to name only a few... yeah a ferrari engine puts out more power, but the japa is guranteed to get you there and if you spent the same money it would probably get you there faster, safer and with more of a smile on your face

there thats my 2 cents worth, flame away! :D

Hahaha - fully assuming that was a joke. 4AGEs (especially the 20vs) have to be one of the most unreliable motors for the power they make I can think of. Aside from 12As.

Read it again. A B18C or B16A that has gone BOOM is an engine that doesn't go at all ;)
