Postby trdfxgt » Fri Sep 29, 2006 1:04 pm

hey iv got my turbo 4 age all up an running going f/n well i might add but i do have a problem which could be major the oil pressure is at 69 70 psi cold but drops to only like 18 20 psi hot ????? this is very low for a 4 age anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing this it has a remote oil filter and the oill pressure gauge sender is on the same line as the turbo oil feed can these have an effect ?? the engine is fresh also what oil should i run in a turbo 4 age ??

Check the gauge, swap it with a machancal gauge to check.

And then... my 4agte only ran just over 20psi when it was idling slow and very warm.... It depends alot of where you put the sender i've found.

Do you run an oil cooler?

My car does the same, high when cold,

and at idle when hot the oil pressure light flickers, as I run a 25psi switch.

Depends on idle speed, at 700rpm my light is on, at 1000 it is off.

I run on GTX2 or Protec Castrol.

We used to run Castrol RS to solve this, but our turbo tech guy did not think RS was good enough for our turbo application as it did not remove the heat fast enough.( race application)

Ran GTX2 in my 4AGTE. Cold Dunedin morning it was around 80psi. Once oil was hot it was sitting at 20psi at idle and going up to about 50ish at cruise

matt

not running a cooler just remote filter but it sits just behind the right hand headlight so the oil has just over a meter to travel there and back do you sujest running a cooler for a race application ?? cos i have a cooler but no fittings yet also what weight is gtx2 or protec ?

Careful what you quote there,

GTX2 ouit of a 4 litre bottle is 15W40.
(which i use)

GTX2 from a w/shop out of a 205L drum is 10W30.

I was under the impression GTX2 was 15W40 and GTX3 was 10W30. Thats what the stickers on the drums at work say anyway... I think
