UNbelievable

Postby RomanV » Thu Oct 05, 2006 1:21 pm

I pulled out the rear quarter windows in my carina, to fix some rust.
There's some foamy double sided tape, that holds the window to the chassis.
I had a look around repco etc, couldnt find anything, so I thought I'd go to my local Toyota branch and see if they had anything.

They said "hmmm, 2 door AA60, rear window sealant... $150 EACH SIDE. And there's only one in the country, so we'll have to order the other one"
(Bearing in mind, that it's just a piece of foamy tape that's cut to the right length)

I mean WTF?!

Who in their right mind would pay that much, for less than a metres worth of foam tape?!

I know they've got to put a margin on etc, but what good is it having something in stock, that no one is EVER going to buy?

but yes, some things are pretty silly thats for sure

have you tried payless plastics, they have the stuff (if its the same stuff im thinking of)on rolls you can just cut to length

or theres the gap stop stuff if you want to be el-cheapo
Nothing to see here ...

I once called Cockram Nissan for a price on a R32 Skyline boost solenoid. Something the size of a 'D' battery, that you would get from a wreckers for $15... $650 ex Japan 8O

Ended up picked one up for free from a mate.

I did wonder...

It's a complete rip off.

Basically , they out price genuine parts , and once the Thai generic manufacturers get their hands on a decent product , they sell it for 1/2 the price , and then Toyota / Nissan / Mitsubishi or whoever drops the ass out of their genuine pricing. When in reality , the price was grossly over inflated to begin with.

over $9000 for a trd lsd
$130 for a vtv valve (small check valve the size of a 50 cent piece)

some of the silly prices from the local stealership here in NP.

Errr... well that 9000$ for a TRD LSD is definately wrong.
They go brand new for around 1.5K to your doorstep depending on exchange rate and for what kind you need.

thats cause they are xenon gas filled or some shit

still too pricey

depends on the parts department as far as TRD parts go, they often are too lazy to get off there ass and find the correct pricing, not some shit price thats 10 years old, be sure to talk to Mr Revhead if you want anything haha

Why not just go see smith and smith or someone, and see if they sell anything like that, or can put you onto someone who does?

Thanks, any idea where I can get some of that? Errr the better stuff than the dick smiths stuff.

And Warwick, I didnt think it would be worth the hassle, for what I thought would be like $10 worth of tape. :o

All of the glass companies I've called say that they use Eurethane glue or similar, which wont work to well for me.
Because there's quite a large gap between the window and the frame at one point, I doubt you'd be able to get a bead of glue to fill the gap.
Also I need to be able to take the window back out down the track a bit, and it's quite thin glass, so I dont want it MEGA MEGA stuck in, so I cant take it out later.

I think that 'one left' AA60 glass sealant will be in stock for a long time to come.
Probably cheaper to just buy another AA60 instead.
