What do you need to race @ drags?

Postby RomanV » Thu Oct 05, 2006 11:26 am

Okay so my car has been fairly reliable lately, so I'm pretty keen to go break it at the drags. :D

What do I need, just a helmet and a WOFd/REGd car?

Also, I dont suppose anyone knows when the next event is on at meremere that I could trundle along to?

I confess to being a complete drag racing noob.

If you are just going to Night Speed then you need a WOF/REG and Helmet. That's it. Make sure your battery is secured as well as they specifically check that.

some places check basic steering components and that the radiator overflow doesnt just pour into the open, a 600ml coke bottle tended to be acceptable here ( even though if the radiators overflowing, the water will most likely melt the bottle).

Although last time I was at meremere, I saw people racing wearing shorts and singlets 8O :? so who knows with their safety setup

Sometimes they check your brake pedal to make sure it's firm too.
Sometimes they are really lax. They let me in with an expired WOF and I ended up winning the day, that was all good. (DYO racing, not heads up.)

Pretty funny beating a 12 second EVO with a stock BZ-G Trueno 8)

dyo is good if your a consistent racer and not all about going as fast as you can.

eg a diesel van could beat the fastest import in the country if he stayed consistent through the round..

i was running 12.9s, i lowered my tyre pressures and it bogged :( so i did a 13.1 or 13.0 against the mr2, he was way too fast for me any way, had a huge as t4 hanging off hsi engine.

yea i wana do 11s, 10s would be nice but i think i need the even hoosier quick time pros cos i think the may be softer.

Ha, Bite me Brendon
I seem to remember last time you were heading to the drags, you broke your motor, so that even makes my car faster than yours on the strip :P

But yeah, heads up is all good. DYO was good for me, cause it meant I wasn't out in the first round against one of those damn fast N/A Hondas.
