Columbus car clinic?

Hey guys, does anybody know what happened to Columbus car clinic? Went down there today and shop was all shut up.

Reason being i need some dynotuning done and Brett, who worked the rolling road there, was the only person with the program for my car.

Even if anybody knows where any of their staff went to.

The dyno operation has been closed for some months now. The program for your car is stored on your cars coputer, not on the dyno's. Unless you are talking about comparing before and afters?

PS Is it a silver with decent sized front mount? Thought I saw one today.

PPS You could try NZEFI for dyno tuning, they are tuning experts.

thats if the right person is tuning it, last time they sent another person i tune a rally car, tuned it far to lean. first stage engine was stuffed

They do rent out the dyno if people prefer to use their own tuner to tune their car... if that was the case, its hardly their fault. Else they use a motec wide band to tune A/F if I remember correctly, so I doubt any car has been tuned far to lean.

NZEFI tune most of the Sports Saloon cars and many NZV8's and Targa cars...

na it was someone who worked there, the normal guy who tuned it was to busy so they got this guy to who obviously didnt no what he was doing

the guy who was complaining is kinda dodge, so it may not be all the truth from what he said. Obviously you guys must be alright as thats the only bad thing ive heard (which may not even be 100% true) and everythingn i heard is good so good on yous :P

I guy I know is still in contact with him.

Last i heard he was taking the dyno to a new premises,
but wanted out of CHCH.

was looking at Nelson, Timaru, and alexandra/cromwell,

but still has not committed to anywhere.

That was last I heard, prob a couple of months ago.

Thats a bugger, Brett is pretty bloody good at them Link thingies :lol: Tuned my MR2 rather nicely, would have been good if I could have gotten him to redo it with the new turbo etc.

What makes a good tuner? Whats the reason you would/do recommend a tuner?

A tuner that gets big power?
A tuner that does a tune giving you car slightly less power but very reliable?

A tuner thats tuned lots of big HP cars that belong to rich people?
A tuner that has done lots of cars like ours?

A tuner that everyone else says is good, so he must be?
A tuner that noone says anything bad about?

What makes you people pick one tune shop over another? Everyone seems to take sides when it cones to recommending someone, why?

What makes you believe that optimal power isn't reliable? What makes you believe the "rich" people dont choose the same tuner as those who dont have the same financial resourses?
Why do we base selection on personal references? Because tuning, is easy to fugg up. Its not something you want to randomly select from yellow pages. A map that has had some time spent on it will perform on the middle rows (part throttle) as well as full. It wont have any holes and should produce peak torque throughout the curve. Its not that hard to tune, it is however time consuming and resourse hungry to get all the above right.

Brett tuned my Bunderson well (4age, offroader). However didnt get row one quite correct on overrun (which is very hard to do on a dyno). I was very happy with the way the car ran other than it flooded on overrun. Which Brett could have easily corrected given a chance.
After a rebuild and considerably more headwork I took it to Richard at DCH. The guy did a fantastic job, and I seriously couldnt recommend higher. The car ran perfectly, which isnt easy for a simple LEM 4, with no holes, no overrun issues, no accl issues and a bump to 177.5 bhp at the wheels.
Nick at NZEFI, although I have thrown little work thier way (look out for the rally lancer soonish) would certainly work with. I've spoken with him on many occasions and think that Nick and his team could produce both an install and map worthy of an investment.

chch34 didnt say optimal, he said big power. By definition the optimal "should" be a balance of many things. There is a fuel cut on over run check box in the software :)
