Ive just recently bought a corona diesel wagon for the sole purpose of fuel economy

ive got it running on a 80/20 mix of used and filtered cooking oil and 20% diesel, at the moment i have no means of heating the oil (to keep it thin) so im not running straight 100% oil, but im going to be using heat extangers and automatic radiator .

just wondering who else on toyspeed uses bio diesel? or has experience with it? means of heating it or injector pump horror stories? lol

i purchase the oil from a friend and before i get asked...no im sorry i cant supply it for your use

hehehe now for the gloating part :P took it to palmy yesterday from taupo (280km) used a quater of a tank..., the 2.0liter NA 5-speed gets 800k plus to a tank it seems, 45liter tank, 1/4 tank = 12liters so with the diesel mix and the buy price i get oil for it cost me a whole $7 to get to palmy :D its quite helierous really because the exaust emmisions smell like fish and chips!

Well the motors proberly 65hp? stock and to be honest i didnt notice any power loss with oil compared to 100% diesel, does 100ks fine down to fourth for most hills sometimes third on the big ones, but its certanly not hair rippingly gutless...

And how much did you pay in diesel milage for that 280kms?

I looked at buying a diesel car for just driving around the city in - but after running the numbers it only just came out to be _slightly_ cheaper to run, and the diesel still noisey, smelly and slow.

Sure diesel is a good 30 cents cheaper than petrol per litre, and sure a diesel gets good economy but you also have to pay diesel milage which pretty much cancels out the cheaper cost of diesel. And then on top of that you have to service it more frequently, with more expensive diesel oil, expensive oil and fuel filters. Then if the injector pump starts leaking you are in for an expensive repair.

Well 2000kms of road tax cost me $65 so for the 280km journey it cost $8.45, $15.45 for that distance...whos car could do that for that price?

Motors for those cars are like $100 lol, but agreed on the maitiance side of things

My dad has made biodiesel at their work, they used the old cooking oil from the deep fryer.

One of his mates has a purpose built car, it runs an engine water line throught the bio desil tank to heat it, a seperate diesel tank for cold starts. Sounds like a lot of fluffing around but a $ .60 /L its pretty good value for money.

Oh it also makes more power :lol:

One more thing, they've found with biodiesel its really effective at srucbbing the fuel system, if you first run it, expect to change the fuel filter when it clogs

There is ALOT of information of running vege oil on diesel car. I did a project on it last year on a left hand drive 1982 Datsun/Nissan Maxima 2.8L (same car as in Pimp My Ride!). :lol: the only one in NZ.

yeah, as you said. Ge it running on straight vege oil too. :lol: Smell good!

The only different i notice is the idling of the car. It seems to be lower compare to diesel.

Problem on the car after that was the injector pump is leaking as everyone else due to the new diesel fuel. The owner of the car I did the project ended up wreaking the car as he got it cheap and not worth repairing it.

I have a seperate tank for the diesel thank itself and automaticly switch over from diesel to SVO when the car is fully warmup.

Basicly the project just a turn key and drive car rather than switching this and that, so a few electronic gadget is fitted in the car :wink:

I have a seperate fuel filter for the SVO too.

The only thing to watch out is, make sure the oil is heated properly ~80'c or abit more. I use the radiator top hose with a heat exchanger but I think is not enough. Maybe need to make a "T" unit with glow plug in to heat the vege oil up for better result.
