i have beaten a k20a dc2 teg lol i have witnesses as well but thats in a mr2 turbo which i think has a better top end then a gt4..... but its not a stock mr2 an the teg wasnt stock either, wasnt beaten by much though.....the dc2 is a mates car, but yea i agree with you they are one of the fastest na's in their category.....

Yeah, but it's only the Type R K20A engine that's really worth writing home about.

If a K20A was swapped into a DC2, it might have been the 160hp or 190hp version. (IIRC?)

In which case a B18C would have more HP anyway.

Unless you meant DC5? :P

Avinesh - while the win is completely valid, its likely the launch that would have really given you the big edge. I'd be concerned lining up an MR2 with my Skyline, and in terms of power/weight my car should dominate a majority of the ones out there.

And yeah, your average MR2 turbo would probably be quicker than your average GT4 Celica as well - so it doesn't really make any odds. I think an MR2 is probably a fairer comparison for a Type-R, I'd find it harder to fault the MR2 in terms of a pure performance stand point - especially a later model one.

Lately I've come to conclude, that the better a car is designed/built, the less fun it's going to be to drive on the street.

For example a GTR skyline.

How fast do you have to push this car, to get a wheel spinning, or a bit sideways, or understeering, or anything? Pretty bloody fast, and then even when you do, the computer gives you a slap on the hand and fixes the problem.

It's taken away all of the driver involvement.

Yeah sure when you're on the race track and you can throw it into a corner at 160kph, I'm sure the GTR is great. But I can see it getting boring to drive on the street.

Same as my MR2, I think it's a little *too* well designed.
It hugs the road so stupidly well, you have to be going dangerously fast to get anything fun happening.

Now compare this to a KP starlet with 165s all round. :D

You'll be plowing into a corner, getting wheels spinning, oversteering, snakeying, etc etc... All at 50kph or less! :D
All of these things, although 'undesirable' traits for a car to have, require some sort of reaction from the driver to fix the situation.
Ease off the gas and steering when you understeer;
countersteer and hook second when you oversteer; :D etc. etc.

It took me a while to figure out why the shittiest oldest slowest worst handling car is also the most fun street car that I've ever driven. I came to realise that the better a car handles/grips/accellerates/etc, the less driver involvement there is, and the less fun it is to drive, unless you've got somewhere where you can push it to its limits, like a race track.

Now if I could afford to participate in track days at pukekohe or taupo every other week, than bring on the GTR or MR2 with slicks and a bazillion horsepower. :D
But I've come to find that having a shitty daily driver is a whole lot more fun than something that's a whole lot 'better'.

Which I think is why I'd rather have the ITR;
Even though it's brilliantly designed for a FWD, it's still a FWD. :D
At least it's going to do something when you drive it; even if it's understeer everywhere.
I'd imagine a GT4 is much like how I find the MR2 to be.

ITR should be more FUN to drive in town,

when u drive the GT4 u will have all the power but no where to use.

but if u floor a ITR comparing to flooring a GT4... the GT4 is scarry.

Sorry, I love the TypeR, and would like one as a track car but in the real world I believe the Celica would be much easier to live with day to day.

I got a quick question you see some GT4s with small rear spoilers and some with larger ones like the one above.
Is there a difference between the two? ie WRC model or something?

now why would he swap a 160hp k20 in a dc2 type r :) he had red top type r k20a with 6 speed manual box as well an its not a suprise for a 2.0 turbo to beat a 2.0 na..... an we didnt do a launch coz i think he knew id out launch him but he doesnt know that i dont know how to launch my car lol.....

Oh, not at all!

MR2 turbo has great potential, and a lot of advantages over an NA FWD. :D

yes big spoiler = group A rally spec (limited edition, very rare
normal spoiler = normal GT4

Yeah. I'm actually honestly surprised an SW20 kept up - do you have a CT26'd or CT20B SW20?? Whats done to it? Maybe the K20A has tuning issues, or yours goes particularly well to do that!

His car obviously isnt standard, even mildly modded B18C type Rs with crappy 60 foot times do a quarter mile about half a second quicker than a standard gen 1/2 SW20 turbo.

Not even taking into account the K20A goodness. :D

<3 K20A & F20C 8)

But basically the bottom line is, NA wins until the turbo guy gets annoyed and spends a little money. :D

Avinesh - what is the MR2s 1/4mile and trap speed? It sounds pretty good.

Maybe an MR2 daily hack could be a bit of fun haha

They're pretty good fun stock too. Mine was a handful in the wet stock.. would be $&#$% scary with more boosts :o 8O

There's pretty much a tried, tested and proven recipe to get a dirty old gen 1 turbo MR2 into the 12s, and it only costs about $2k to do so IIRC.

CT20B, aussie 3" downpipe, boost controller, and a clutch that enjoys nasty launches. :D

I'd like to run a 12 with my RWD Skyline this season - and its a little frustrating hearing about MR2s doing it that easy ahah. However, I think I will be a lot more "within the limits" doing it than a GenI SW20 with a CT20B running crazy boost. I sometimes think one would be fun, you get the best of both worlds - RWD *AND* traction.... though I'd never replace the Skyline with one, there is a certain top end rush the 3SGTE just doesn't comprehend haha.
